I'm thinking about making some prefolds and was wondering how microfiber would do as a soaker? I'd either use diaper flannel of birdseye as the body of the prefold. Any thoughts?

Oh, and does anyone have dimensions for prefold sizes? I have some infants already, but would like to make some regulars, I think.

I can't help you on the microfiber I'm still pretty new to this all. I did have the prefold sizes but I can't find it right now. I know that I got them online by looking at deminsions given by certain stores. I think Babykicks gives deminsions. Sorry I'm not more help.

I did find some dimensions, so I'm good there. I think I'm just going to try one or two, and see how they work. I'll have to wait just a little longer to use them, but a lot of this is trial and error, right?

I am planning to do the same thing, hopefully this weekend. I have micro yardage and was thinking I would do a sandwhich of micro between flannel. Would you di it this way or only as the center soaker part?

LOL. We're supposed to get rain the rest of this week, so our outside time might be moved down to the basement, where I sew

If you get a chance to make some up, I'd love to hear how they turn out!

For custom prefolds, cut the body pieces to the width you want (probably about 3/4's, or more, the waist size that you'd want) and the length to the rise. So, if your babe is about a 14" waist and a 14-15" rise, you could make them about 12"-13" wide and about a 15-16" rise. The center panel is 1/3 the total width - you can sew it to one layer inside the body or sew it on the outside. You'd probably be fine using a zig-zag stitch on your machine (if you don't have a serger), or your machine might have an overlock stitch ... then you just have to trim the fabric next to the stitching (it might get a little messy in time from washing, but won't fray past the stitches).

Fern & Faerie have some good (free!) instructions for making prefolds.

Good luck and post pictures!

I got tha micro yardage from a coop and I doubt it will be cooped again. I ordered last August and didn't get it until a few months ago. There were huge issues with customs. I am trying to be very judicious with what I use this for! Right now at WalMart near the auto section they have 97cent towels in all kinds of colours. I may pick some of those up and see how they work. They look small but may be the perfect size for a folded stuffer.
