Have I been Duped?

Ok..so I went to our military hospital to get set up with my prenatal appts (planning on a home birth, but have to have back up Dr and so I went...)
They put me on the books for 2 appts in April (a 8 wk one and a 12 wk one)...then sent me to the lab for my pg test.
I peed into a cup...and they took 5-6 vials of blood...5-6 VIALS? Ok, I'm thinking a blood test to confirm pee test, one to check iron, and maybe one to check other levels of something...
What else could it be? The guy taking them said he didn't know, but that they would go over it at my next appt. They just wanted to run the labs.
So...since I am 35 I'm wondering if they are taking any 'extra' tests. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't continue to ask and get him to tell me what they are for...
Guess people are just able to take your blood and not tell you why...
Anyone know what those tests were for?

Not in your group, but saw your question, they will test for:
stds
immunity to rubella
blood type

off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

Not in your DDC either, but had to post.

I'm also having a homebirth but have received some concurrent care from our local Naval Hospital. They also took 5-6 vials of blood during my initial labwork. I don't remember what all they tested for but it was apparently just the standard tests.

Usually RPR, Rubella, Hep B, and Blood Type.
My office does all the ones they listed plus syphilis (I passed on that one) and a prenatal thyriod panel.
Ok, so I shouldn't be worried about this....Ok...guess they will give me my results in a few weeks!
Thanks!
But I do think it is crappy that the guy couldn't tell me what the vials were for...jerk.
Sounds like normal pregnancy blood workup to me. The AFP is usually done later, I think... Like closer to 12 weeks maybe? And that you can turn down if you want.
At my appt they drew 5 vials (Wanted 6 but my vein burst adn i refused another draw)
1. confirm pregnancy/hgc levels
2. reubella immunity
3. hep b immunity
4. blood type
5. AIDS test
6. can't remember what that was for (but it didnt' get drawn)

What racks me up is that this is our 3rd child, therefore 3rd blood draw.. like I'm gonna get a new blood type? and i had the ruebella immunity last 2 times.. is it just gonna go away? had teh aids test done both other times, no reason or risk chnge that would have cause d that to change. Only thing is teh HEP B, i didnt' have the immunity despite having recieved the VAX but i refused teh vax last time and this time. it's nuts! (i dont' do well with blood and my Dr is letting me pass on the GD test without any arguement since i dont' do blood well. ) And i never get teh other blood draw tests AFP, quad screen or whatever
They took three for me. I declined the STD tests. In the results, they told me what my iron, HcG levels, and progesterone levels were. So in my case, I think it was one for each of those.
They can't do an AIDS test without your signed consent, so if she didnt know what they were testing for it is not AIDS.

Usually true, but this is a military hospital she's talking about. I don't know if the same "rules" apply...

True...I'm not sure if I would have to sign something...or maybe I would, but my husband has no choice in what they do to his body--he is 'theirs.'
