I've heard that they have an odor. I've not tried them myself. I make my own (and sell them.) There are hundreds of different kinds of sandwich bags and sandwich wraps out there. Do a search on etsy or online in general.

My dh wraps his sandwiches in either wax paper, alum foil, or a cloth napkin and tucks it into his lunchbox. He says he likes the napkin better because he has a napkin when he's done! Unless your packing something really messy this would work for ordinary meat/cheese sandwiches.

I have them. We love them and they are used daily. We purchased them last summer and they are still going strong. I get asked all the time where we got them. I especially love the fact my 3 1/2 yr old uses it like a placemat. He dumps out his chips or other foods onto it to eat. Much nicer then the classroom table.

I never heard about the odor thing. Ours never had any smell. But that being said I know they used to only have PVC for the linings and that would have had a smell. http://www.wrap-n-mat.com/Overview-of-Linings-i-16.html
The ones we bought are the ones made in the USA of LDPE.

We have a bunch, and they simply don't last. I never dry them in the d oryer, but the plastic gets these tears in them, or the fabric shrinks up. The quality varries between the fabrics. My red checkered ones shrink up weird and get all bunchy. My blue ones disinegrate.

If you're willing to replace them often, they're great. But I was hoping mine would last longer than they have.

Oh, and they work really well. They just don't last long.

I used my wrapnmats for about 2 years (hand washing and hang drying) but then the inner layer of plastic started breaking apart. And I didn't really like the plastic they use. There are a lot of different styles available now. I like the kind that have the waterproof layer on the outside and only fabric against the food.
We use fabric wraps and bags for everything! My dd takes a crazy lunch of differently wrapped parcels - each one is a surprise until she unwraps it.
