I had blood work taken 2 days before I o'd. I had a HCG level of 10 (>5 means pg) which means that my body hasn't rid itself of all my pg hormones.
The next two days my temps dropped, apparently I o'd and they went back up. We bd'd the night before FF said I o'd. What are the odds that my HCG levels went back to normal in those two days? And do they have to go back to normal before I get pg again?
Ok, this will be an educated guess. If you o'd, then you can get pregnant. Your Hcg must have been low enough to allow ovulation. I think it is completely realistic to think that the level could have gone down to normal in 2 days (normal generally being less than 5).
I don't know if that is even an answer. I don't know any concrete numbers at which Hcg is low enough to allow for ovulation. I think the corresponding drop in progesterone is what would be most important.
. It took forever for my levels to go back to normal after my m/c and it was so frustrating.
Hoping someone will come along with a more informed response.
Thanks gals! I had a feeling it was a tough question. I wonder if anyone in the medical community even knows. I should ask my midwife, but I think I'll just wait it out.
I am supposed to go back for another test in 2 weeks, but I am hoping that a HPT is all I will need to take. Funny, I thought I would want to wait until early next year or November at the earliest to try again, but since being in the 2ww was an accident, I feel as if I am back on the wagon. I have at least another week until I can test.
Ellie's Mom, sorry you had to go through so much, but I see you are pg again, so congrats and good luck!!
Holy Crap!!! I love it when I know an answer!!!!!
Ok, your beta does not need to be back to normal to ovulate--in fact, sometimes (like for me this time) they will give you a shot of hcg to trigger ovulation. It's your progesterone level that needs to drop in order for you to O. This is why, sometimes, especially if low progesterone was the cause of the miscarriage--or at least if prog started to drop first, women will O quicker after a m/c than in a normal cycle. hcG adn LH are very similar, so your body thinks it's surging, even if it isn't yet.
Make sense??? Clear as mud right???
Finally someone asks about something I've read in my hours and hours and hours of anal reading.
OK, does ovulating in this situation necessarily mean I can get pg? Is that a dumb question? I guess I mean is o-ing the ultimate sign that my body is ready to be pg again (barring all the normal problems with getting pg). Or could there be something else that needs to happen, like hormone levels tapering off some more. And does o-ing mean that all of the last pg is gone from my body?
I don't know why I need to know this. Time will tell, but I'm feeling the crazies coming on knowing that I'm in the 2ww and all that it could mean for us.
Maybe I would be better off knowing where you got your info so that I can do my own research.
Ok, you know, when I typed it, I almost added a very similar joke!!! I like you!!
Keri, you tend actually to be more fertile right after a m/c and your only real reason to worry would be if you had a d&c as your lining would have been taken down pretty low, so I think if you're ready mentally, you're likely ok. If your hcg had come down to 10 already, I think it's pretty unlikely there is anything left--first you'd likely still be bleeding--look at the other Shannon on the birth loss board, she continued to bleed for 4 months straight and it was just the tiniest bit of placenta that was left.
Good luck kiddo!!!!
Oh and I wanted to share this with you. I went today to visit our little memorial bench at the park to have a little chat with my pup Tunza and tell her to keep her eye on this little one.
Anyway, I'm sitting there and this black and white cat came up and sat close to us, it was Steve and I and our 2 dogs--for some reason our dogs just looked at him--even though they are cat chasers adn this bench is miles from anyones house or farm--Steve was talking to him and asked who he was. I told him I thought it was Oreo and told him your story. Anyway, I told this cat that you missed him and to take care of his baby, then he walked away. I didn't realize until I was back in my truck how at peace I felt.
I talked to a co-worker yesterday and I was telling her that I was TTC #2 and she decided that she knew everything about TTC (which was rather annoying considering she didn't know crap - but that's besides the point). Anyway... she told me she got pregnant while trying for her 3rd and miscarried shortly after (natuarally, no d&c) and even had a few ultra sounds to make sure all the cells were gone. Then, without having an actual period and having intercourse the shortly after her bleeding stopped she became pregnant again and carried that healthy baby to term. This was all within a few weeks so there is so much hope that you are pregnant and will have a healthy pregnancy.
