Hi we are pregnant again. We have had 3 miscarriages, then we had a healthy pregnancy & we have a 2 year old. We had our 4th miscarriage last October. We are currently about 4.5 weeks along this time. Here are my hcg/prog numbers so far:
Monday day 34 663/19.5
Today day 36 1682/18.00 we started vaginal progesterone supp today 100mg 2 times per day

With my healthy pregnancy my numbers were much higher
day 30 361/40
day 33 1306/71.6
day 36 6004/96.9
I was on oral prog for that pregnancy.

So I am grateful and happy that my hcg doubled, but I am freaking out a little bit that they aren't as high as my healthy pregnancy. I am really trying to remain calm, but it is hard
Thanks for any advice/support

PS with my other miscarriages (the ones I have numbers for) my numbers were lower around the same time.

Thanks Thanks Thanks

You could just have a late implanter. My second full-term pregnancy had much lower hcg numbers than my first but was just fine. I figured it was just late implantation.
Sorry to hear about your losses.

Thanks-- I didn't even think of that. We are day 36 from last period (3/4), but the conception date was 3/21 so that does change things. That makes me feel better. Sometimes you just need someone else to look at things to see things you don't see.

Every pregnancy is different, and that includes HCg levels. The fact that they doubled is key and should bring you some relief. Later on, they'll double only every 72-96 hours, so don't let that freak you out. My husband always plugged my numbers into www.betabase.info and that helped him remain calm.

The type of progesterone you're taking also makes a difference in your levels. Oral progesterone isn't metabolized as well by your body, so it shows up as higher levels in your bloodstream, hence your higher #s in your last successful pg.

The vaginal suppositories you're being prescribed now localize the progesterone where it's needed -- in your uterus -- but won't show up as such high numbers in your bloodwork. But that doesn't mean they're not doing what they're supposed to. In fact, they are thought to be more effective than oral meds.

I switched from oral prog to vaginal prog shortly after my BFP with this pg. My first levels, taken when on the oral meds, were 24.3 at day 10. At around 5 1/2 weeks, after my serial hcGs had already been done, they checked prog again and it was somewhere around 18, I believe, but that level was on the vaginal supps. But I had also already seen a hb by then, so I knew things were going okay.

I'm 15 wks. along now and stopped my suppositories a few weeks ago. No problems, baby is growing beautifully.

I think you have every reason to be hopeful -- your hcG is rising appropriately and you should expect to see a difference in the progesterone levels depending on what form you are taking.

Good luck and keep us updated on how you're doing; and congrats!

I just found that beta database & plugged my numbers in this morning. It did make me feel better. I am sooo glad you told me about the difference in the blood levels on the oral vs supp progesterone--that definately would have freaked me out.

I am trying to remain positive, but every once in a while the scared me comes out. Whatever happens happens. If this baby decides (or if the universe decides) to stay with us that is wonderful. If not then that is ok too--I am sure that it is all part of the Universe/God's plan. I am trying to use these miscarriages as a growing experience.

Thanks again, I can't tell you how much you words have helped me! We will see what tomorrow's numbers bring!

Guinevere--Congratulations on your hearbeat!! Yea!! That is the best sound in the world!

They are planning on doing at scan at 7 weeks I wish we were doing it earlier

GOod luck! Believe me, you don't want a scan any earlier than 7 wks. We saw just a gestational and yolk sac @ almost 6 wks, and I had a major freak out and a terrifying 6 day wait to see the heartbeat!

that makes me feel better--we are scheduled for our scan on 4/23 & that isn't too far off. Our hcg yesterday was 4651--so that is good. They didn't run a progesterone which I thought was strange. They also don't do anymore labs between now & the scan.

With my son my doctor ran hcg/prog 2 x per week & it really made me feel better (until we got to 58,000). I am probably going to ask them to run some more labs & see what they say. Since the dr. I am seeing now is a RE he will send me back to my ob after the 7 week scan anyways. So I am toying with the idea of calling my old OB & seeing if he will run the labs if the RE won't.

I read this article that says that it is really important to get attentive care in the early months for women who have had recurrent miscarriages. I think it is so true--but hard to find.

I feel like they don't individualize treatment for each women they say this is what we do take it or leave it.
