Says my grandmother and my aunt yesterday at Paddy's first birthday party. Paddy doesnt sleep with us anymore unless he's sick or scared, thunderstorm, etc... But our two week old does, and I hope he will sleep with us longer than his brother did. Yada yada....anyhoo my aunt was holding Henri and he was sleeping, and she mentioned how well he sleeps when he's being held. I said "Of course! He's a little baby! He always needs to be with someone." And she said something like "Oh well you don't want him getting used to that." I went on to explain how Henri sleeps next to me at night, and that is pretty much the ONLY way he will sleep, how babies need to be close to their mothers, etc.... My mom said " I thought you put him in the co-sleeper?" Well he doesnt like sleeping in there. I guess the whole thing was strange because we co-slept with Paddy and I was pretty sure everyone knew that
Sometimes Paddy was in the co-sleeper, other times he was right in bed with us. It was about 50/50. Henri apparently needs to be with us more than his brother. Ugh I just know I'm not going to hear the end of it now.

I love when people say things like that--it's just funny
Nope, I would sure hate for my baby to get used to being cuddled and held. That would be awful!

What annoys me about this is that it's the same people who talk about how mind-numbing sleepless nights with newborns are...

I am so well rested! So I just nod and smile at the haters

You are so lucky! Mine would not sleep for longer than an hour at night, even in bed with us. Then it took her 2 hours to get back to sleep after she ate. I am envious!

When people makes comments like "He sleeps IN bed with you?!" and sound outraged... I try to sound equally outraged...

"OF COURSE he does!!!! Where on earth else would he sleep? Can you imagine there are people who STILL let their babies sleep alone in these cage-like cribs while their cats and dogs get in bed with them?!"

I pointed out to my dad that Freud was opposed to letting babies in bed with you because he thought it would give them a complex. My dad never said a critical word after that ... he couldn't stand to be on the same side of anything as Freud.

I use this approach all the time and it works well. When someone asks if she's still nursing, I respond "of course". In a way that implies, what are you nuts, why wouldn't we______ (whatever). It works so well

When my dad learned I planned to co-sleep with this one, he went on about how I'd better not let her get used to it, or I would put my relationship at stake. I didn't have the guts to tell him I could have a "relationship" plenty of other places than the bed. (Besides, bed is for sleeping and cuddling-- quite family-friendly activities if you ask me!)

when i read this a little vioce in my head said something like; well, since we only screw in the bathtub, we figured letting our LO into bed was fine, but we keep her out of the bathroom
