I have noticed that when my 3 1/2 year old intact son pees . . it is now coming out in a spray. In the past it always came out in a nice clean stream. Is this something I should be worrying about or a normal development. I don't *think* he is retractable at all. He tends to do more pulling out on his extra, super long forskin than trying to do anything close to retracting.

So, what do you think?

His foreskin is probably getting looser around the tip. Ask him to pull the foreskin back a tiny bit when he pees and that should stop the spraying. My ds1 is almost 6 and is only now remembering to pull his foreskin back more often than not. But he pulls it back the whole way for some reason, little goofball. I think they only need to pull it back enough to keep the looser tip skin from flapping around the stream, causing the spray. Does that make sense?

It's around the tip and the shape of the opening of his foreskin is becoming more relaxed, no doubt!

It's totally normal - and the pulling out and rubber-band stretch is totally normal too. That tugging will give the inner foreskin a workout as it gently and indirectly pulls on it, away from the glans.

Spraying is normal and usually temporary. Generally, it goes away in a few months and is thought to be a part of the separation process. Also, young boys pull outward on their foreskin when urinating and at some time usually around 6 opr 8 years old, they start automatically pulling back on it. No one seems to know why except their other mother, Mother Nature.
