DS (13.5mos) will not eat anything right now. I think he may be finally getting more teeth in, as he only has 4. He will nurse though, so that is great!

My question is, since he literally won't eat anything (but maybe a few bites of something through the day) then should I offer him juice (100% fruit juice) to drink instead of just water? So then he is getting some more calories and nutrients since he won't eat anything. And if so, should it be straight juice or mixed with water?

I don't really give him juice. It's always water. And of course I wouldn't want giving him juice to make it so he refuses water from his sippy later. But not sure what to do - he is seriously not eating anything all day long for the past 2-3 days.

I'd say no to juice, unless you make it yourself its not got great nutritional value and if he's b'feeding then he's getting more nutrients then in juice anyway.

Do you think he could be coming down with something, my boys when they are ill stop eating, which is the perfect thing to do as their bodies can concentrate on fighting off the virus.

I wouldn't worry just yet, my ds1 lived on 90% breastmilk until he was 15/16 months, he only started eating more solid food when i got pregnant.

Ugh, I typed a long response and lost it....

this may be short, I have a 21 month old on my lap nak'ing!

Breastmilk has TONS more calories than any solid/juice we can provide.

My 21 month old dd is back to almost exclusive nursing while cutting her eye teeth, and she is fine. She still only gets water to drink.

Suggestions:

Toddler tray (I do small bowls of seeds, nuts, fruit in different rooms for dd to snack on throughout the day)
Frequent nursing

sorry so short----I'll post more later if I can get a moment.

My Child Won't Eat - good book.

Offer offer offer. Don't make a big deal. Try to also offer lower fiber foods as higher fiber foods fill them up. IF you offer enough healthy foods, eventually they'll eat something.

Offer BM, water, no juice.

My DS is really not eating anything either. Most of it goes on the floor. Guess he likes to test gravity!

Ditto the others. I would offer BM before juice anyday. It's just full of sugar and empty calories. If you want something to give him in a cup, I'd either give him EBM or cow's milk if you don't feel like pumping. my 13m + goes in stages. In a couple weeks he'll probably eat again. right now he's just taking a few bites here and there. probably just how he's feeling this week. just keep offering variety and nursing.

Same with my ds (who is almost 14 mos.), he goes through stages of this and then will all of a sudden go back to eating again. Funny thing is, he'll throw stuff on the ground, then when I put him down he'll pick it up from the floor and eat it. Silly boy!
