Oh my monkey boy who climbs up on to anything and doesn't like to sit on chair...oh no...stand on the chairs. And most of the time this is a real good time mama, but then OH NO...bad mama didn't catch sweet cherub and he falls off and hits the back of his head on the hard wood floor and he cries and I hold him and feel like big puddle of dog doo for not keeping both his feet on the ground. and NOW...I worry that he has knocked himself too hard but how to know? check his eyes, OK. done. beautiful eyes, same size. no bumps, no bruise, but I still worry. he has a check up soon but i still worry. wise mamas say what?

Well, I don't know about wise... but my ds fell off the bed and bumped his noggin pretty hard one day. Yes, watch the eyes, but most important, watch baby's behavior. As long as he's acting normally, not really sleepy, or throwing up, he's probably OK. As always, I called my ped. just to make sure, though!

We just had to call the doctor the other night because ds fell off while standing on a kitchen chair, and landed smack on the back of his head on our hard tile floor. She said to watch for him being clumsy, groggy, out of it, etc. If it happens around naptime or bedtime, go ahead and let him go to sleep, but to wake him a couple of times just to make sure he's still okay.

I hope you dont feel bad. My son bumps his head every other day. I try to watch him but an active toddler has a mind of his own. All you can do is baby proof as much as you can.

Like the others said watch his behavior and he should be fine.

Ok, my ds is just like yours. He's been into everything since he became mobile at 6 months. But my question to you is, what do you do when your child purposely bangs his head on the walls, the hard floors, other people's heads... I don't know why he does this (has done this since an infant) nor do I know how to make him stop. I would think your ds is ok if he acts fine. Kids are very resiliant and I think some boys are made out of unbreakable material! I hope your little one is doing better.

hey mamas...
thanks for the reassurance and stories. lil' seren benito is still climbing everything, but he did learn what "ouch" means by his experience. he hurt himself the other day and i said "ouch" and he looked at me and then patted himself on the head saying "ouch." he remembered what that felt like. amazing little creatures, aren't they? do we lose that? or just forget it?

speaking of head bumping. teniprice: ds never banged his head on stuff (i do get the urge to bang my head though..only when dh listens to tool though) but i've read that it might be that babies are craving rhythm and so they create it but bumping head. This was from one of Penelope Leach's book (which abound in thrift stores) and she goes into more detail about what to do if you think he is hurting himself, etc. good luck with that...i bet it is frustrating.

take care...i'm off to make the most of the nap time
