After all my freaking out, everything was fine. Except for the part where I was so nervous before I went to the midwife that all I had for lunch was a piece of GF birthday cake so my pee showed signs of ketosis. Ooops.

We went in to the room and they did the blood draws with my husband out of the room (he is very squeamish about blood) and then brought him in. The licsenced midwife was running around like crazy cause they had two births the day before and were short some people who were home resting after being up all night so the student midwife did the doppler. She is the sweetest thing ever and really fun to talk to, very light hearted and friendly.

She gets the doppler going and sets it down and we immediately get the loud whooshing, and she laughs and says "that's you" so she moves to the other side and is moving the wand around and I hear a little heartbeat for a second and say "Was that it?" and she replies "yep that was it" and my husband says "What??". Hehe. Poor guy. She found the heartbeat again and it was loud and strong and 154bpm. We listened to it for a minute or so and it was totally awesome. Tears came to my eyes. I could have listened to it for hours, this little heart beating away inside of me. I walked around for the rest of day with a giant grin on my face, and announced on Facebook: "Just got the best birthday present ever - got to hear a tiny little heartbeat going 154bpm"
