So I am totally baffled by trying to protect my dd from the sun and bugs. I know this sound silly but I am really worried about it. If I put sunscreen and bug spray on her lower arms and feet she can just lick/chew it off but the only other option is long pants and long sleeves which just seems too hot for the summer. Also how long is it okay to have babies (she is 6 mos) in the summer heat. Here it gets really hot and humid. Tomorrow I am working at a garage sale in the afternoon from 12:00p-3:30p and it is going to be above 90. If we are in the garage out of the sun should that be okay for dd? We have Burts Bees bug spray which says it is okay for use with kids but doesn't specify infants but it all essential oils and Alba Kids sunscreen which says it is okay for babies over 6 mos. Any other reccommendations? Also anyone know of a waterproof natural sunblock?

Not an option to forgo sunscreen where I live, unless we don't leave the house during daylight hours for the next 4 months. We use several kinds from the health food store, but I don't particularly love any of them, and none seem very waterproof. I will watch to see if any good recs are made here.

For bugs (the mosquitoes are out of control right now) we have been using a product called Badger. It comes in stick form and is all natural-- things like citronella, rosemary and lemongrass. I think they have it at Whole Foods.

We don't put anything on her hands and wrists and hope for the best.

We just got the Burt's bees sunblock and bug spray. We used them the other day at the park. The sunblock worked well on both kids (I did keep ds in the shade as much as I could.) There weren't any bugs so I'm not sure exactly how effective it is yet.

I did a bunch of research and the Badger Balm Sun and bug balms both sound wonderful, but I couldn't get them around here. Also UV naturals sunscreen is supposed to be good.

There was a really interesting thread about sunblock a few days ago.
