I'm Danielle, SAHM to 2 WONDERFUL boys. Adam is 5 and he's going to start Kindergarten this year I'm so not ready for that. It's a hard decision, I'd love to hs him but I don't have the patience and DBF is deadset against it. We compromised- we'll start him in public school but if we encounter anything that just irks me, he's getting pulled out of there. Logan is 8 months and he took one step unassisted the other day- I'm not ready for that either! These boys are growing up way too fast!

DBF is Ed, he's an all around great guy and he supports every decision I make..well except the HSing lol.

We CD, AP, cosleep, BF, vax except the c.pox vax, and they're circ'd. (though, upon my recent learnings...future boys won't be).

We live in the Wilkes-Barre PA area but we're not sure if we're staying. I had a bad birth experience in the local hospital (both births actually) so we don't want to have babies there anymore. I'm looking into midwives/doulas/birth centers...but coming up empty handed for stuff in this area. So...if anybody happens to know some good resources for me please share

Welcome neighbor!

There are actually a couple midwives who serve this area. I didn't use one so I'll let others fill you in on that. Come on over to the the lacka co thread and talk to some local folks. http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?p=8126554

I was just thinking, what about the montessori school? Is that an option for you guys? That may be a bit of a compromise.

I only know about it because the church I sometimes attend meets there. I don't even know who from the congregation is affiliated with the school. It's a nice building anyway. And I'm a little familiar with the ideals; I like the child led aspect of it. I usually pick up the catalog for For Small Hands that they have in the entry and the materials available look neat. If I couldn't unschool that would be my next choice. I know they have some financial aid but I dunno how that works.

There is a montessori subforum down in the education area here. As well as some other alternative schools that we don't have around here.

Have you tried hooking your DP up with some other homeschooling parents to chat and maybe allay some of his concerns? What in particular is he worried about? I only have a 2 yo so I don't have the experience, but we do have some experienced local homeschoolers who may volunteer.

I don't really have the patience to HS, I'd love to but I'd wind up ripping my hair out. He did agree to take a tour of the Montessori school because he likes the way it sounds- he's just unsure bc of the money kwim? His main concern w/HSing is the social aspect but I keep telling him that he's wrong and he won't budge on it. He's stubborn sometimes. He does seem very interested in the Montessori so I guess it would really depend on how much the financial aid covered.

Okay, I missed that in the first post and somehow got the vibe that you wanted to but he was against it. Good luck!
