I'm a Canadian, born abroad to Canadian parents, who has lived in the U.S. her entire life. This summer, we'll be moving to Vancouver for my husband's job with our soon-to-be three-year-old. We're interested in Waldorf education, and I know about the Vancouver Waldorf School in North Vancouver. But we're going to try to find a place to live that's closer to my husband's job, hopefully in the Fairview/Cambie/Mount Pleasant area. The city we live in now is packed with various Waldorf schools and more than a dozen Waldorf-inspired preschools. While she's still so small, I'm hoping to find some sort of Waldorf-ish preschool or mom-and-me playgroup near the area that we hope to live. Does anyone have any ideas? The Waldorf movement seems much more widespread and almost mainstream in the city we live in.
Thanks,
Catherine

Thanks, everyone. That's reassuring. We're coming from Portland, home of two well established private Waldorfs (one K-12, one K-8) three private Waldorf elementaries, including one attached to a Waldorf teacher training institute, one "Waldorf inspired" public charter elementary, one outdoor year-round Waldorf forest kindergarten/preschool, and then all the zillion Waldorf inspired home-based preschools. We have been going to a once a week mixed age playgroup that was started mainly for Waldorf homeschool families. Every place we go we run into Waldorf families, which was kind of reassuring - I knew she wouldn't ever be an outcast here. Does anyone have any idea where I could find out more information about the playgroup or the school startup?
Or can anyone recommend another preschool or playgroup that supports natural play materials, limited screen time and that sort of thing?

The Waldorf school in North Van is handy from Highway 1. So if you live in northeastern Vancouver its not a hard commute at all. Just look for access to Hwy1 in any potential neighbourhood you are looking at.

I must say the more I learn about Portland the more I think it must be a wonderful place to live!
