I asked you this on another thread, but I think you never saw it! You've mentioned twice now (that I've seen!) the magazine VegNews. I've tried several recipes out of it and they all sucked. I didn't try very many though - maybe three or four, but I quit trying them because they were all bad. If you're saying some of the recipes are good though - I might give it another try. What have you tried that you liked?

I don't know how I missed your question before or this thread. I have actually never had a recipe suck from there! Maybe you are just picking the wrong ones and I'm picking the right ones No wait, I take that back I made a gluten free dinner thing one time that was gross.

One of my favorite recipes from there is one that I have for a banana chocolate chimp bread (they call it chimp, not me). It's fantastic. If you want it let me know and I'll dig it up. I've also made some really good dinner pies from there and some soups - one has like kale and barley and tomatoes and stuff. Ummm... can't think under pressure.

Oh the latest issue I made the chickpea and cranberry tart thing that was pretty good but not great but the cranberry relish was to die for. I haven't tried the others yet because I've been out of town the last couple of weeks but if I try some more I will let you know how they go and we can compare notes!

Thanks! Well, I'll give them another try. I'd love to try to chimp bread, but unfortunately - we're gluten free, so I doubt that's a gf recipe! I know to stay away from the gf dinner though. I'll check out the cranberry relish recipe.

The gf one I tried that was gross was like a tempeh tettrazini or something like that. Sounded great, tasted pasty.

You know - Vegetarian Times had a gluten free section in one of their fairly recent magazines. They had a stroganoff recipe that looked and sounded so yummy. Almost everything I have tried out of VT has been good, so I was psyched. It was barely edible! I think some of these publications are just trying too hard with the gf, yk?

My absolute favorite cookbook author Robin Robertson often contributes articles & recipes for VegNews. It would be safe to try any of her recipes, her stuff is amazing.

I also love the Chocolate Chimp Bread recipe. I believe that recipe was printed from a vegan bakery.

Oh man, I wish they'd do some recipes from the restaurant here in Denver called The Watercourse. They food is so incredibly awesome - I drool just thinking about it. They have this vegan carrot cake that is. to. die. for! Of course, I probably can't eat it now because of the gluten issue, but man it's good. I should write to VegNews!

My favorite vegan carrot cake is from a place called Cafe Indigo in NH - soooo good. It was featured in VegNews awhile back as "best carrot cake ever" but they didn't give out the recipe. Darn them.

OK my mistake, it's from a bakery in Washington DC called Sticky Fingers.

Banana Chocolate Chimp Bread

1/3 cup margarine
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 medium ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup soy milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat over to 350 degrees. Grease loaf pan with margarine or oil.

In a large bowl, cream together margarine and sugar. Mix in flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add mashed bananas, soymilk and vanilla. Mix until batter is moist and sticky. Gently fold in chocolate chips.

Pour batter into loaf pan and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until top is golden brown.

Enjoy!!!!
