My little guy is now 3 days old. I'm worried because he's not pooping or peeing much. He nurses every 2-4 hours for about 30 min, sometimes longer. He's had 2 big meconium poos, no poo at all today. He last peed this morning. We have a check-up tomorrow, but I'm freaking out. Is this normal for bf babies (my dd bf but with supplemental formula)? I have no clue and I'm getting worried.

Thanks mommas!!

Is your milk in yet? That could be the problem. I THINK I remember that in the first week you want as many diapers as days- 1 diaper on day one, 2 diapers on day two, 3 diapers on day three. But I'm not sure- it's been awhile.

I don't think it has yet (I'm not exactly sure how to tell). It still looks pretty much like it did before he was born when I hand express a little. He seems happy, sometimes gassy though. He is content when he's done nursing, so I don't think I'm starving him.

oh YOU"LL know when your milk comes in. Your breasts will become the size of..well huge.

One morning it'll be like "Meh" and the next FABOOOOM

Nursing him a little more often could really help in many ways, especially to bring your milk in faster. Every time he squeeks, offer your breast. Up until 1 wk or so, 1-2 bm a day is good ( so in your case, I would definately nurse him more often to encourage him to pass the meconium and avoid any supps, not that you are but I know how tempting it can be ) and 3-4 wets, then once your milk is in it should jump up to about 6-8 wets and 3-4 bm's about the size of a quarter.
As long as babe is latched on well and your not in any pain, keep on nursing and everything will work out just fine....trust your body Mamma

When my ds was born, we were given a sheet that said he should have 1 wet/dirty dipes for each day old they are, until they are 8 days old. Then I think they should have 8-10 per day and that's the minimum from there on out.

alegna is absolutely correct.

Thanks for all the good info! He just soaked his dipe, yay!!! Still no poop, but I'll work on getting him to eat more. He's passing lots of gas so hopefully we'll get more poop soon.

Thanks again for your help and reassurance.
