help for my albino daughter?

Please you ladies that know so much about breastfeeding and nutrition help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter is albino (most albino people have blue eyes, you can see her pictures on our website www.chrisandabby.com/amberfaith )
As a result of her albinism she does not have enough pigment in her retna and is very very delayed visually and there is a good chance she will always be considered legally blind. I have read though that DHA and Lutien both help people increase and maintain their eye pigment. I need to know the best ways to get those nutrients to my daughter. She is 5 months old. I've read the higher my diet is in these nutrients the more of them will be passed onto through my breastmilk. I don't want to eat too much of something that will hurt her though either.

Right now I'm thinking that a good way to go would be to take bilberry with Lutein supplement everyday, a gelcap of codliver oil everyday, eat canned wild caught alaskan salmon 2-3 times a week, eat 2-3 eggs with extra DHA in them a week. Can anyone tell me if these are okay amounts or if it would be okay to take more of anything or something different to help my baby digest and get the most dha and lutein possible? I know that you have to be careful not to eat too much fish because of mercury- how much can I eat?

When will she be old enough to eat egg yolks or salmon?

If anyone knows ANYTHING about foods that help with eye development that I can eat or ones she can eat and when please please tell me, you can respond on here, pm me or, or contact me through our website. If I can do anything to keep my daughter from being permanently legally blind I want to do it!

Have you consulted a pediatric opthamologist? If your daughter needs glasses, try www.solobambini.com , they are super cute and unbreakable, perfect for babies.
Your DD can be given cod liver oil (high vitamin oil preferably) directly. Start with very small doses (about 1/4 tsp.), and work your way up very, very gradually.

We have always eaten one egg every day even when they had said that is was 'bad' for you. We only eat organic eggs. And neither mine nor my dh's cholesterol is high. Also I would suggest using the cold liver oil liquid and taking 1 tabsp. a day. You can also give her a tiny bit but I would make sure it is from wild cod from Alaska.

If you eat Soy, please make sure the package says 'non-genetically-modified'. The brand of Tofu I buy is Nasoya.

I would only eat wild salmon and only once every other week.

My grandson had eggs when he was about 10 mo. They say to be vigilant for allergies. I personally believe an unvaccinated child does not nearly have the same chance of getting allergies as a vaxed kid.

i think dr sears' has info on when to give egg yolks. the yolks are much less allergenic than the whites so he recommends you give them by themselves early on. i take nordic naturals DHA supplement for myself and give my girls their kids gel caps. they love to chew them up (strawberry flavored). you might want to try something like that when she's older. they also make liquids. not sure when you'd want to start those, but i think you could stock up on the DHA or Omegas (NN also makes several Omega formulas) and she'll get it through your breastmilk.

your daughter is really cute, btw! love those chubby cheeks and thighs and her eyes are beautiful.
THANK YOU LADIES SOOOO MUCH! Albinism is very rare and I'm not finding many who know a lot about it and those that do are eye doctor specialists and you can imagine how little interest they have in nutritional suppliments

I have heard that they make eggs high in DHA and also that you can boil the egg and then seperate the yolk to help prevent the child from getting any white. I think for now I will stick to eating the foods myself though and hope she gets them through breastmilk. Now I just have to find a way to get myself to like Kale- its so high in lutein!

genestra offers DHA from algae...i get the super neurogen dha. it comes in capsules. You can take it yourself and you can also express some milk (a few good ounces i'd say at least 4) and add a capsule to the feeding to give it directly to your daughter.

oh you want to break the capsule open and add it to the feeding. It doesn't taste to good so i don't reccomend feeding it directly. (i tried some before.)
Any time you make soup, cut up a bunch of Kale and cook it in.

Also I just steam it and put a big pad of butter on top, salt and pepper, ummm, we love it!
Make a pasta dish with finely chopped kale, canned diced tomatoes, chick peas, onions, and your spices of choice all cooked together. Toss with pasta and your cheese of choice. Even my kids love that!
I have been slowly switching to the healthy eating lifestyle. . . used to be a bad carbs and pretty much nothing else eater. I've changed a LOT but Kale is just sounding so yucky to me. I found a recipe for Kale Chips that I'm gonna try, I think I can handle some crunchy Kale.

I just soaked some dry chick peas, think I'll add finely chopped fresh parsley and basil leaves....I got 8 whole grain spaghetti at home and organic cheese....can hardly wait...

I noticed two supplements, specifically for the eyes, at Trader Joes.
We don't have a Trader Joes near us but are going to St. Louis where there are 3 next week for her to see an eye specialist- for sure we will be making a stop at Trader Joes and I'll be looking at their supplements! And all their other stuff too!
