Ok, so here I am on vacation and using disposables. My one month old has a bad diaper rash and the usual cures aren't working. Usually petroleum jelly clears it up in one day. Desitin never works on my kids (and usually causes them to scream bloody murder when I apply it). I have tried "Burt's bee's" diaper ointment and that isn't working either. I have tried baby powder too.

So, I need either a new cure. (someone mentioned to me a vinegar cure...does anyone have a recipe for this?)

What usually is in disposables that causes a rash? Does anyone know the ingredient in a disposable that might cause a diaper rash so I can avoid it.

Once I get home I will switch back to disposables but for now I need some help.

Please IM if you have any ideas or post them for all to hear and use.

Try Tushies (non-gel forming) or 7th Generation (no bleach, I think...)--we used Tushies for the first few days of life and then occasionally when we were out & about--no rash issues for us--hope your DC's bum clears up soon!

Also, when you have down-time and are not on the go, let baby go without a diaper for as long as you can. Just wrap in cloth of some kind and/or leave out to the air. Good luck!

My Little Man had a diaper rash in the beginning that just wouldn't quit! I can't say exactly what did the trick but we dried his bum after wiping, let him air dry for a bit, used AVEENO diaper rash cream and soaks and BUTT PASTE and raw silk liners for his cloth diapers. Of the two creams Aveeno helped the redness but I think the Butt Paste really sealed the deal. IMHO a dry bum is the ultimate key. Also the Tushies wipes didn't work for us sadly.
They were just too rough. We finally switched to pampers sensitive. Hope your lo gets some relief soon!

What brand are you using? Huggies and some of the store brands are notorious for causing allergic reactions/rashes. The only sposies that we could use were Pampers Easy Ups, though we never tried the more natural ones like 7th Gen.

Ditto on the Tushies--my parents got these for us as they were more 'natural' and I couldn't believe how rough they were. Went right back to the Pampers Sensitive. (Avoid Pampers regular--man, they stink. Literally.)

Are Nature Babycare nappies available in the US? Those might be better. I know the liner isn't made of plastic like many sposies.
