I wanted some ornaments that my kids cannot break , so I thought I would buy some styrafoam balls and cover them in fabric and hang them instead of glass ones. However, now I am faced with a minir conundrum. How do I cut the fabric to cover them so it lies smooth ? Strips? A circle, a square ? And is it better to use hot glue on the fabric or some of that craft glue ( I think it is called Tacky glue or something like that ) on the ball itself?

And, I cannot find any of those small plastic things you screw into the tops of the ornaments to hold the metal hooks. Do you know of any stores that carry those ? I suppose if I cannot find those I can sew a loop of thread to the top and use that to hang them up..but I worry about it staying on.

Help ? Any links / ideas ?

My mom used to make these when I was a kid and what she did was cut small squares of fabric (maybe 2") and using a nail file (or the like - something that would press in, but not cut the fabric), press the pieces around the edges into the styrofoam maybe 1/2" or so to hold them in place. It gives sort of a quilted look. Did that make sense? naking so I had to make it brief. LMK if you have any questions.
