My new psuedo-boy toy is coming over tonight, since we normally go to bars but I'm not ready for that... and I offered to cook...<br><br>
Now, l am a great cook, but I need ideas:<br><br>
Something that says well, everything I need it to say....<br><br>
He's a Navy boy, special ops who just returned from Iraq, so I'm not sure he'll be too discriminating... but I want to make a good impression..<br><br>
ETA: nothing that includes using any alcohol in the prep.... I chucked it all and I can't get more.

Are you vegetarian? If not, do you have a grill? Steak, baked potato and salad always goes over well with the men around here. Sauteed mushrooms to go with it... now i'm making myself hungry.<br><br>
Mind you, that's a bit heavy if you're planning to move on to, um, extracurricular activities afterwards. I always head for allrecipes.com when I don't know what to make. Salsa chicken is yummy... with rice and veggies?

Keep it really simple. Nothing is more annoying than going to see someone and they are so distracted with 7 things on the stove that they can't visit with you.

Pasta maybe? My husband LOVES ziti, and would eat it every night if I made it. In fact that is the first thing I ever made him.<br><br>
Get one box of pasta, any kinds of shapes work, but the tubes work best. two jar, cans whatever of pasta sauce. one pack of slised provolone, two bags of shredded moz cheese, and one 16 oz or more thing of sour cream. layer like such...<br><br>
sauce<br>
pasta<br>
provolone<br>
sour cream<br>
moz<br>
sauce<br><br>
layer as many times as you like. Makes tons, and it is good.

I agree with both the steak reco and Allrecipes. I actually made a really good pot of "Swiss Steak" last week from the Food Network's website. Recipe was by Alton Brown. Had to brown the steak first... but after that, it basically cooked itself in the oven. Served it with mashed potatoes.

it won't matter what you make for dinner as long as you have a hot dessert. something with ice cream that will melt on top of it. doesn't even have to be homemade.

Mmmm. . .some brownies sound lovely <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
I think you should make lasagna or some other dish that can be prepared and baked. The sides (salad, bread, etc.) are easy ones to throw together, too.

Speaking of brownies, I made a brownie recipe from Epicurious once: <a href="http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/108346" target="_blank">http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/re...s/views/108346</a><br><br>
I needed one that used cocoa powder, so I did a search and found that one. I used half coconut oil/coconut butter in place of the butter. They were really really good.

No recommendations here, but wanted to tell you I mis-read your thread title... at first I thought it said, <b><i>"Help, I am looking for a man tonight!"</i></b> <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

One of the first meals I made for dh was <a href="http://www.recipezaar.com/63612" target="_blank">Baked Spaghetti Olivetti</a>. It went over really well with him. It did not take a lot of prep effort. It did not interfere with other activities later.

A Navy boy fresh from Iraq probably hasn't gotten much home cooking and is sick of restaurant/prepared fare. Don't knock yourself out with anything fancy or Haute Cuisine-ish, but go for something homey and comforting and just-like-mama-used-to-make.

I agree - I cook that everytime I have anyone over and it always goes down a treat! (plus you can do all the prep before and just whack it in the oven when he gets there!)
