I have officially spent too much money on diapers.
:

DH is going to flip if he figures out all that I've spent!

Anyone else having buyer's remorse over all the wonderful, lovely fluff they're buying?

Maybe when all the stuff gets here, I won't care...

But I really NEED to stop buying stuff!

I guess I need to think about getting on the wagon... and making sure I sell of what I don't use...

I think a lot of us have been exactly where you're sitting! Remember this feeling and try not to let it happen again.

For me, I try to ask myself... is this a NEED or a WANT. If it's a WANT, I only go with PP from selling other things or do a trade. If it's a NEED, then I really consider my options.

And, yes, you'll sell of what you don't need. Resale is nice.

I think most of us have been in that situation. I used to spend too much way more often than I do now. I think I've finally found out what I like and what works best for DS and am more careful about purchases. It is very hard to not buy on impulse, especially when in the back of your mind you're worried that another hyena is going to snatch that diaper up if you hesitate for a second! :LOL I've found that not coming to the boards as much has helped me some. (out of sight, out of mind!)

I made the mistake of actually keeping track of every dime I spent on diapers. It's painful for me to open up my spreadsheet and see the actual dollar amount. I can't believe how much I've already spent. My DH already knows but he has no room to talk because he also has a very expensive hobby.

I've spent too much. If my husband ever figures out how much (I hide the receipts, and have never actually counted it all together myself...) he'll probably take all the cards from me, delete the paypal account and change his bank account password. Also take the check book, AND sell most of my stash.

I've spent a lot on diapers also. I still haven't spent as much as I would using sposies. I still have a couple of diapering years ahead of me and probably don't need to get much more. I alos like to remember that saving money is not the reason why I use cloth.

I'm helping a mama switch from sposies on her two boys right now, giving her advice and whatnot, and she is spending 10 dollars per day on Pampers at the moment, so think about what a waste and how dumb you'd feel throwing 300 bucks per month in the trash like that.... kwim? Puts a cloth habit, especially when you buy items with good resale value, into perspective.

I've been there. What helped was finding what worked for me the best. I had to be honest with myself after that point and realize that matter how wonderful the dipes looked if they weren't going to work that it didn't matter how cute they were. Now that said it did take me about 6 months of craziness before I found what worked best for us. Also my life has gotten busier with a 3.5 year old and a very mobile 11 month old. Just don't have time to stalk like I used to.

I am a compulsive tightwad in a family of compulsive overspenders, and it hurts me--almost a real, physical pain--to see people put their marriages on the line and destroy their financial futures for the sake of acquiring material goods. It doesn't matter if it's diapers or electronic equipment or antique furniture or whatever. Please, if you're spending more than you can afford, stop. If you can't stop, please get some kind of help or counseling. Buying more diapers and more expensive diapers will not make you a better mother. Love will make you the best mother you can be, and that's free.

I will see if I can find some good links on how to stop overspending.

I rationalize it with:

I stay home and this is fun for me to buy, sew, etc.

I don't buy lots of new other stuff, furniture, clothes, since I'm a garage sale junkie.

My dd looks so freakin cute!

We still have money for organic food and to pay the bills.

They are only babies for a few years.

I can pass down the diapers or resale.

I haven't used our retirement!

And my dh is in higher education and will work forever since he loves what he does.

:LOL :LOL :LOL :LOL :LOL

when i feel this way, i do lots of window shopping and browsing. sometimes i even put stuff in my cart, but then i close the browser, or get up and walk away. often, when i look at the total amount i'd be spending, i realize it's unnecessary and i feel better.

the other thing that affects my diaper buying is dh. he knows that ds has enough diapers (esp since he is showing some interest in the potty)--he has point blank told me not to buy anymore for him. so, i really can't, or i might p!ss him off. :LOL

now when we have #2, i know i'll go crazy for newborn diapers. that's the other thing i do--i browse sites for itty bitty dipes, and daydream about what we'll use on #2. that gets me through a bad day.

Well, I am not THAT bad of an overspender... LOL. Our financial well being is not in jeapordy or anything like that. My DH would be mad at what I've spent, I think is the worst that could happen.

I mainly just feel like I've spent too much, you know? I do want to have a fairly large rotation so I can resell most of my stuff and get some money back, so I guess some of it is valid. But, I just don't like having spent so much on this one thing. It's just too much. Even if I was working FT and we had money to set on fire, I wouldn't feel right about it.

So, I have a couple of things I truly do NEED on my list (wipes, a larger size VK AIO because I think my DS Is about to grow out of the Larges), and other than that I am going to stop looking.

That's been my siystem lately, to ask my self that question. I am only allowing needs, and the answer is always No, I don't need that. I am probably set until he potty learns, but I don't know if I can last that long without buying something.
