I have the hardest time getting the oils and solids in tahini and almond butter to blend... stand there stirring it forever getting oil all over myself and the jar, making a big wasteful mess. Is there some trick? Should I stick it in the microwave for a while or would that be a bad idea nutritionally?

TIA!

What I do is I store the jar upside-down, so that the oil is on the bottom when I turn the jar right-side-up to use.

You can do one of two things.

1. When you get the jar home from the store and it's still warm, immediately open it up and stir it. I do a kind of folding technique, or just mash my spoon up and down. Then put it in the fridge. It won't separate again.

2. When you get the jar home from the store and it's still warm, open it up and dump it in a blender or food processor. Run it to mix, then put back in the jar and store it in the fridge. It won't separate again.

I prefer method 1 because you don't waste nut butter on the side of the food processor. Method 2 gives a better mix, though.

I do number 1 that kallyn recommended. If you put it in the micro you'll be cooking it more, which is not a good idea nutritionally.

Some up and down motion may be needed, please DO be careful or you and your kitchen will be wearing the oils and butters for good (not telling how I know this ). What is left on the beater is wiped off onto a slice of bread and whoever is at my elbow will get it.
