I went to motherhood today but left backwards when I saw the nursingwear was behind the register and I so did not want to deal with a teenager when choosing my bras. Mea culpa!
:

So now I need to order.

I want 1 sleep bra and one for outings, will that do?

I also need 2 t-shirts, 1 long sleeve and some nighty with easy nursing access.

No idea what's good and what not, what should I buy? I don't like the idea of spandex or polyester pure though.

I also have a major sizing problem I think, I'm barely a B now but definately not have the slim under the chest measurement most women have. Before pregnancy build in bra tanks were out, too much cloth for my boobs and the bra band would cut into my flesh at the same time.

I'm also worried that the t-shirts won't be long enough. And if that's not enough, I do think some clothes look very frumpy, not exactly desireable
.
Please, ANY advice ?

I personally use any bra that I can pull under my breast for nursing. I am a c when I first start nursing then I drop to a B after a year. So maybe thats why I can get away with no nursing bra?

I despise nursing clothes. I wear anything I can pull up or down for nursing.

Layers work best for nursing say a tank top and a shirt or sweater over that. But of course layers normally only works well during cooler times of the year

My dislike for nursing clothes is with my first I had some but the quality has awful, the fabric hung funny and didn't wash well. The design of the clothes isn't my style. Being I have nursed or am nursing each of my kids for 1.5+ years I wear clothes I love.

I do have a nursing nighty that I use when I have a newborn as my breast spends most of the night hanging out and I don't want the rest of me getting cold
: But of course a button down shirt works just as well.

I bought my nursing bras from a dept. store. After about 6 months I went back to my non-nursing bras. Much more comfortable! I just pull it down as well. As for nursing tops, I bought two and also disliked how they hung on me and washed. A pain in the hinder! In bed I usually just wear a t-shirt or a tank top. The tank top bras are really nice. My advice is to wear what you are already comfortable in. Most nursing wear is expensive and not worth it in my opinion.

if I had any maternity tanks I'd do that, but I don't because of the sizing problem. My old ones without the build in bra are all too tight now...and won't I need a sleeping bra for the first weeks to keep the nursing pads where they belong?

Maybe I will find out that I'm more comfortable with normal clothes, but as of now I don't know and I don't want to find myself staying at home all the time because I don't want to expose postpartum flab outside the house.

IMO regular old bras hold the pad in just fine. And actually do a better job of it as I cant see the pad outline through my shirts.

I like regular tanktops, the ones without built in bras. The built ins dont always fit my poor breasts right.

If you wear 2 layers you wont show any skin.

I did one winter get a nursing tanktop from WalMart and it was wonderful. Forgot about that till just now.

I also have found that wearing a tank top and another layer over it works best. i have bought some clothes from motherwear that i wore the first month or two after i had my baby but i have quickly outgrown them, and they look stupid now. i gained 60+ pounds during pregnancy and then breastfeeding really took it off...as well as following an actice little boy...Now even the t-shirts I bought look huge and ridiculous on me. I live in southern louisiana and the heat index here gets well over 100 degrees. I still wear a tank top everyday underneath a t-shirt, and i'm comfortable. I have found that longer tanktops work best. i searched everywhere for these and actually found them at american eagle...they do have a built in bra. since they are long i don't have to pull them down all the time and worry about my stomach showing...they also make me feel more comfortable in my regular shirts.

Would only say that I got a couple of Boob brand shirts and I literally live in them. I love the ease of access and they look great, not frumpy at all but are long enough to avoid any coverage issues. They're pricey b/c they're Swedish made with great fabric but they're having a summer sale at www.activebabycare.com. You might want to get just one for your going out shirt.

Hope it helps!

I never wore nursing clothes or a bra at night, just old t-shirts to soak up the leaking.

In the early months, I found the Bravado brand to be the BEST, b/c they really work for a range of sizes as you get bigger and smaller. For me, I'd say a minimum of three bras (I leaked a lot in the beginning, and spit up gets more places than you'd expect.)

After about a year, my size evened out and I purchased some Wacoal ones with underwire (which I would NOT recommend for early on, since that you lead to plugged ducts, etc.)

I second the suggestion for at least three bras--I have two sleep bras and two Bravado bras, and that works pretty well for me. If you go with only one nursing bra for daytime use that may be fine, but I definitely suggest two nighttime bras; I hate sleeping in a cold wet bra, so it is nice to have a "spare" to throw on when I wake up in the night after a nursing pad has shifted and one bra cup is soaked through.

If you're worried about exposing post-partum belly, have you seen the Belly Hugger? It's an easy way to cover your belly and back without having to wrestle with two separate tops. I bought a few of them, and now I can wear all of the tanks I wore during pregnancy and before, as well as my nursing tops.

Small boobs here too. I got 2 of the simple white clasp at the top nursing bras from motherhood. I wore these under a t-shirt for about 7 months. Then I swiched to a simple soft cup bra from Trarget, one white one black that can easily pulled down for nursing. I tried an expensive sleep bra and a glamoutmom tank that were ust not a good fit for me. HTH

I got a couple of nursing shirts for when its cold and pulling up my shirt is too chilly, but mostly I wear egular stuff because some of the nursing shirts I've gotten haven't washed well and ended up really looking like, well, nursing shirts.

I DO want to try a boob shirt, though. They look nice. I have a belly hugger that I got on ebay...it's awesome and covers my semi-scary tummy when I'm nursing.

I have 4 of the night time nursing bras from motherhood and I love them. Though I am a 38 DD right now. I wear them whenever I am at home and at night time. I even wear them out of the house if I am wearing a light colored tank top and I just don't feel like changing bras. I also wore one while I was in labor. I really love them. I can't not wear a bra because I leak and I hate feeling wet. So DS is 8 months and I still have to wear a bra all the time.

IMHO 1 sleep bra isn't enough, even two was streatching it. I had to really plan my laundry to make sure that as soon as I switched bras the dirty one went into the washer so I had that one waiting in the wings. I think they are like $13 so not too pricey.

ETA: I really want to try a Belly Hugger! The Boob shirts look really nice but WOW way too pricey for me. I just can't justify paying $35 for a simple tank for everday wear. Especially since I can get some regular tanks for $16 (got a few for $12 on sale) at Torrid. It is a plus size store so the tanks are long enough for my long torso. I just pull them up and try to cover up what I can.

I've been really happy with motherwear:

I have some of their t-shirts, and I really like them. They're long enough to cover my belly, and they're comfy, and they don't look totally dorky. Plus, they sometimes sell some of their overstocks on their ebay store, where you can get good deals.

For a tank top, I really LOVE my glamour mom tops:

They are expensive, but I think they're worth it because they're easy to use in public, they hold breast pads if you're using them, and they are long enough to cover the belly.

For bras, I've really liked the two Bravada bras that I have. I bought them at a local shop , but you can probably find that brand online.

I also love my motherwear tops. I just ordered some new ones, as my old ones were getting pretty ratty. I get plain color shirts for versitility. I got a nice sleep bra there and a pj set. I recomend that over just a reg shirt as it is easier to stay warm and comfortable when using something made for nursing. I also hate to have my belly exposed, so for me just lifting my shirt is not as nice. I really feel more comfortable nursing ANYWHERE when I know no one can see my flab. (Not as conserned about them seeing my breast
) As for regular bras, I have just gotten mine at JC Penny's. Simple cotton no wire just nursing bras. I have gone thru 3 or 4, with other bras as back up but these have been my fav's.
Good luck shopping!!
