I'm currently scoping out day homes for DD when I go back to work in November and I think I'm going to have to order some new dipes. She's in prefolds and some providers don't like that idea...and frankly I don't really blame them, she's very wiggly and there are two steps to putting them on.

So, if I have to order pockets or AIOs, what should I get?

My only experience with pockets is some Happy Heinies we got for nights and I wasn't that thrilled with them. I was using 3 inserts for night and it worked when DD was *just* fitting into them but now it seems like the inserts stretch the diapers so far that they leak. They work OK for day with 1 or 2 inserts but I still don't like them as much as prefolds...I find it kind of gross when you have to take the insert out when they're wet/dirty and they don't contain poop as well as a prefold.

I LOVE my BumGenius 2.0 OS pockets. Some people say their tabs aren't holding up, but mine are and I wash on super hot and dry on super hot! I love them because they have the velcro versus the snaps, so I can get a good fit. I use these at night, too, with a Hemp Babies Big Weeds and my heavy wetter can go all night.

I've heard good things about the Mommy's Touch OS pockets, though I've never tried them myself.

When it comes to pockets, I am a big Fuzzi Bunz girl. When my FIL had no problem with them, I knew we were on to something good!

They are not the prettiest diaper but I love these. In fact I reach for them most of the time, especially for outings. I have never tried them at night, I use Fuzzi bunz at night. And they are super cheap and last forever. I have some that have been through a friends 3 kids and are now 10 months into my DD wearing them. http://www.alltogetherdiaper.com/all_in_ones.asp

At daycare I'm currently using Bumkins AIOs with a doubler stuffed under the airflow panel. This works very well. However, I'm trying to figure out a way to make it easier for the staff to use prefolds....

I dont buy fuzzi bunz new because of them being made in a factory in mexico, increasing their prices even though their costs have obviously gone down, and the fact that I feel better supporting WAHMs.

I really love Happy Heinys pockets though. They are made by a WAHM and her friends and family, and are great quality. They just came out with a one size version as well that comes with 2 inserts (one small and one larger for when baby is bigger). I'm waiting on money from my mom (gift for the baby due in October) and then I'm going to be buying as many as I can for the new baby coming. They have a new cow print too that is polyester, and is great for nights (they have some cotton PUL prints too but they are reccomended only for daytime use). Their solid colored ones are bulletproof.

it means that unless they're literally flooding out they don't leak. Some materials are more leak proof than others are. For instance, a lot of the printed PUL is made with cotton that is laminated with waterproofing, and since the material itself absorbs water, after awhile if not changed fast enough it starts to leak (like wool or fleece). However, PUL fabrics made with polyester are more waterproof because both the fabric and the waterproofing are water proof, so they are closer to a plastic in terms of waterproof-ness. Also, the design really matters because how they are sewn decides how many needle holes are in the fabric, and while it does sort of seal back up somewhat, its not always enough if there are a LOT of sewing holes from the needle.

I hope that makes sense

I LOVE bumgenius AIOs. I have a OS pocket too, but I prefer the AIOs. They are crazy absorbent and have a hook and loop closure. I also have some swaddlebees AIOs that are stuffable for extra absorbency. I like them because I really like snaps, but they aren't nearly as absorbent as my bumgenius.

I DO NOT like bumkins at all. They leak within 45 minutes for us. They are OK for at home when you aren't planning on keeping a diaper on long, but not on the go.

My best advice is to not buy lots of any one kind, but buy one of each kind and see if you like it! I ended up with 6 bumkins AIOs and am not happy with them. :

After almost 4 years of stuffing pockets I have a pocket aversion but I can tell you that I like the old style FB's and the BG's the best. So unless you can find the old style FB's I would go with the BG's. You can find them used and they have a good resell value.

I love Happy Heinys too. For daycare though we use www.Bum-Ware.com all in twos. Easy on with hook and loop and simple enough that we never have mistakes, no matter who is changing her. They like them too, and they are WAHM made.

For simplicity and cuteness at a reasonable price, you can't beat chunkymonkeydiapers -- embroidered AIOs with a design and name for $18.50! They're aplix, all one piece, easy, and adorable.
I use the bumGenius 2.0's as well and totally love them! I hot wash with a few drops of tea tree oil to kill the funk and a vinegar rinse to get out anything else. I also line dry (indoor rack) so they are still pretty much brand new after 7 months of constant use. I also use some cotton/hemp doublers for night that can be found here: http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/....htm#smallhemp
Check out the bumGenius- they are excellent!
