Once DS was down to very few poop accidents each week, we switched from cloth diapers to Kushies training pants. They are flannelette on the inside (with a hidden soaker layer that might be something else) and waterproof on the outside.
These training pants are strictly pull-on, pull-off, so when there is a poop accident it is a big pain. You get poop all over the child's legs and feet when taking off the training pants.
My DDs are too far from graduation to use training pants of that type, so I have another approach for them. I got some pull-on, snap-off fitted diapers and pull-on waterproof covers. If they poop, the fitted diaper contains almost all of it and I can pull off the cover without a big mess. Then I can snap off the diaper to clean up.
