My daughter is now 3 and out of the sling phase. I have 2 Over the Shoulder Baby Holders and 3 Maya Wraps. I was going to keep all 5 for... my grandchildren. : But I realize how nuts that is? What? Wear my grandson or daughter in some ratty old sling I wore their parents in? : No!

OK, I talked myself into giving 4 away and keeping 1 (the padded one) but AGAIN, what the hell am I holding it on for?

Can anyone think of a good reason to keep it? I can't.

Please help me give ALL 5 up.

Does my garage really need a box of 5 slings? No. What am I going to do? Visit my garage when they graduate from H.S. and hug the sling? No.

and should I give them away or sell them for, I dunno, $5 each?

If you don't want to just give them away, you could try to sell them on Ebay.

Chances are, saving them won't be worth the trouble, even IF you or your kids used them in the future. Think of how fun it'll be to buy a new sling to carry your grandbabies in someday!
I say you take em' on down to TTP and let some new moms and babes benefit from them right away instead of letting them take up space and get dusty and unused for years....if they ever get used!

There are charities that take donations of slings for families that can not afford them.

You can post them here.

You could also hold onto them for the Holiday Helper Thread.

I would seriously consider putting one of the easiest to wear in the trunk of your car for a random act of kindness--I remember driving and I used to sometimes see one young mom in particular getting on and off the bus with a very young babe and a toddler and her bag and the toddlers bag and walking--I always felt so bad that she seemed like a sweet mama b/c she was carrying the tiny and attending the older one and was burdened down with the bag and stuff. I would have liked to just stopped and said, "Excuse me, I'd like to give you this sling, it'll help you carry the baby and make your life about a million times easier!"

I have a friend who needs one - whether or not she know it yet! lol Her baby boy was born at 20 or 25 weeks (I can't remember) on May 18th - and he just last week got out of the Ronald McDonald House/Hospital area and got to go to her apartment. We were SOOO excited! But since he's so tiny - I think baby wearing would be IDEAL for her to completely bond all over with Caiden. He's been a hospital bed for so long, with around the clock care, of course, but that's nothing like mommy holding the baby! If it's not too forward, I'd love to know how I can get one for her. I think she'd love it!

Thanks!
Thanks for the ideas and encouragement.

I gave away my 3 Maya Wraps (I hate dealing with the post office. Shlepping there, waiting, taking my 3 yr old... you get the picture.) I prefer to do this locally. And with people I * know * are going to use it and not toss it.

If I have no luck locally with my OTSBHs, I'll do the Holiday Helper thingie.

I love this idea:

There's someone who posted recently on the ISO part of the Trading Post looking for slings to loan out to low-income mamas.
