OK. today was the absolute last straw with pinning prefolds. Picture me at the mall, very wiggly(and strong little bugger at that) babe in stroller, seat reclined, trying to get off a pinned prefold and aristocrat..........fast forward to me trying to RE pin a new diaper and put on aristocrat. I am swearing and I honestly had to pin and re-pin about 6 times before I got the d*mb thing on right. I hate pinning folks, HATE it. Especially when I don't have the leverage of a changing table.

question - does anyone else find the third leg(bottom)of the snappi unnecessary? Am I crazy? Do I put it on wrong maybe? Because it is almost always unhooked when I go to change ds. I pull it down, DIG it in as best as I can. It seems like it is in there good. It doesn't get to his skin or anything, but maybe it could. Should I cut it off of my snappi? What do you think?

I really cannot afford fitteds. I want them so badly because I hate to pin and snappi though. I truly love prefolds, I do. And I would love to master the snappi. It seems to hold the diaper together even better than pinning. (when I pin the diaper always ends up unraveled with the pin touching ds' skin, if that makes any sense) But how do I keep from harming my poor guy with a snappi!!! LOL. I know I sound ridiculous by the way:

When I Snappi, I hook the two sides then I hold the top front of the diaper in one hand and pull up. At the same time I pull down on the third leg of the Snappi and hook it low. When I let go, it all stays hooked. It needs to be snug to work right.

The point of the third leg is to pull the Snappi down below the baby's belly and to keep the front of the diaper from sliding out from under the side "wings".

I've used a Snappied diaper on my son and my daughter, and I've never injured either one of them yet!

If you really want a fitteds for those difficult out-and-about changes, maybe you could find a couple on the Trading Post. You could trade books or kitchen stuff or toys if you don't have diapers to trade.

Lisa, thanx for reading my long annoying post. lol.
After reading your response, I think I am not pulling down enough on the third leg. Such a simple concept, the snappi, and it is baffling me beyond belief! I just have to laugh at myself because I am so obsessed with all of this it is ridiculous..........
Thanx for your advice
BTDT My advice(i did cut the third leg off one of mine)would be don't do it. If you have a babythat doesn't crawl/walk yet it would be okay, but like midnightowl said it is there to keep the diaper up in the front. one day Sam was crawling around and i saw the diaper flapping vehind him with it still attached to his waist. :LOL
Good luck!!
Debi

It took me a long while to love the Snappi. We recently went camping and I brought a bunch of CPFs and realized I forgot the Snappi! We had to go to Wal-mart and buy pins, and they sucked. I hear ya!

Here are some of my Snappi tips:
1. You need to pull both the front and the wing of the diaper UP and AROUND the leg to get a tight fit -- not just the wing. This helps a LOT.

2. You need to do as the previous poster mentioned and pull the third leg WAY down to prevent the CPF from getting saggy.

3. Sometimes after you get the 2nd side hooked, you need to go back and redo the first side to make it tighter. I know there are a lot of people who are good enough to do it in one fell swoop, but I'm not one of them.

4. It helps to have a new Snappi. I had one that I used for two months (I used it maybe once a day, and I didn't have any others.) Then I got some new ones, and they had so much more stretch and held the diaper on tighter.

Another thing is that the snappi needs to be stretched before you use it. (Every time you use it)

Kate from Snap to it, said that most problems people have with their snappis results from not properly stretching it before they put it on.

Hold it in the middle, and stretch one leg at a time, until you have stretched all three legs. I have found that the bottom leg is a little tighter than the other too. But after I stretch it I get a better fit.

Just a thought, you could try it and maybe it will hold better for you.

Good Luck.

I cut the third leg off on one of mine too, it ruined one too many of my shirts (picking him and it stuck to my shirt and pulled the threads way out!) so I got the scissors and hacked that thing right off! I think it still works. I didnt cut my other two, I try pulling them wayyyy down but they still come undone. LOL

I actually broke a snappi one day as I was picking ds up from where he was sitting on the floor. It caught on the carpet and the bottom leg tore. So I cut that sucker off figuring, 'who needs it'. Like the original poster I couldn't see the point , it would always come off the dipe. Dh abhors the snappis since they always catch on his shirt when he's holding ds. I've ripped two shirts this way myself. I happen to pins but I still use a snappi now and again and thanks to midnightowl I have a better idea of what I need to do to get a good fit. Plus the wriggle factor is increasing so I imagine there are more snappis in store for us :LOL

Be Careful when stretching those snappis!!! I got a brand new one and was giving it a little stretch before it's first use and I pulled one of the legs right off!!! OOoops I guess I didn't know my own strength.

Katie I would contact the store you bought it from, or better yet talk to Kate at Snappi Baby . The Snappi should not have broken just by strecthing it. Maybe you got a faulty one and they could replace it for you.

http://www.snappibaby.com/contactus.html
