I just got a black male short haired kitty <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/cat.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="cat">: (as sort of an early birthday present <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">) He is 6 months old and has yellow-green eyes. This mom was 1/2 Tom 1/2 black, and his back quarters have a slight black stripe to them (but it can really only be seen in the light)<br><br>
I need a name for him! His previous owners called him Spike, but I want a cool black cat name. I was thinking of these two:<br><br>
Gimalkin - the Witches' cat from Macbeth (calling him Grim) DH says people will think he we named grim reaper <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
Jack - Always loved this name, thinking of Jack from the Nightmare Before Christmas<br><br>
I want something unique, maybe a little dark <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"> Any other suggestions?

My first two cats were black toms--I named the Tinkerbell and Cricket. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
Not that helpful, eh?

I really like Jack!<br><br>
Storm?<br><br>
Warlock?<br><br>
I'll keep thinking! I love naming pets. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Oh, I like Cricket and Storm.<br><br>
I might just have to put all the names in a hat and draw!!<br>
Or call him each name until HE picks the one he wants to answer to.<br><br>
DH thought of Azrael (the cat from the Smurfs) But is that a girl name? Sounds kind of girly...

Hey, it's a cat - once he's neutered, he'll be "girly" anyway! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> I'll just say, I hate it when people give their pets wierd names that you don't understand. My neighbors' dog is called Mughen (sp?) which is Japanese for perpetual dreaming. Uh, what? How about spot or bob or somethin?<br><br>
We called our old black cat Spooky.

How about Shere Khan (sp?) the panther from Kipling's Jungle Book?<br><br>
Oh, wait. That was the tiger, I think. The panther was...Bagheera? Dang, I'm going to have to look it up now.

hkline would hate our cat names--some of them, anyway: Mason, Kissa (KEE-suh), Sevyn, Tamarind and Lychee (LIE-chee). <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
What about Coal/Cole? Sirius? Freddy or Chucky or Stephen? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
Widow? Panther? Sabbath? Ice? Friday?<br><br>
Thirteen? Chance? Tarot?

Actually, I know what most of those words are, so not really! I kinda feel the same way about people & their kids' names...at least the pet isn't cognicent of it's wierd name...<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> Hey, I have a purebred himilayan flametip named Furball, so whatever floats your boat.

I vote for Warlock. That was an awesome suggestion. Of course, we have a black cat named Kazoo, so you might want to ignore my taste.<br><br>
Of course, you could always go for irony and name him/her Fluffy or Snowball.

Wow, those are some great names! Frog, you have some awesome ideas.<br><br>
Patchristy - I agree, he is!<br><br>
Termite, not something I want to call through the house<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> Unique though!!<br><br>
The kids have traditional names, so I'm all for going wierd with the kitty.<br><br>
My list is about 10 long now! I like Siruis, and Newt (and even Frog!), Kazoo, Warlock, Ice....and about 6 more!<br><br>
Thanks for all the names, have any more? When I go home tonight (yes, I'm anti-working at work <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">) I'll try them all out and see if he likes any of them.

Hey, if you keep talking long enough, you're bound to have a good idea, I figure. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Raddish!!!<br><br>
For some reason, I just think that's the best cat name ever, but since I came up with it, I haven't had the occasion to name another cat :-/

Name him Gimalkin, but have Jack be his nickname. It'll be a real conversation starter... "And this is my cat, Gimalkin. We call him Jack..." <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/duck.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Duck">:

That was after a <a href="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=700055" target="_blank">whole list of names</a>, and help from a few folks in this forum.<br><br>
I loved the "othello" suggestion, but it turned out that our guy couldn't carry a big name. He's as Jack as Jack gets, and in cuddly moments he's my little cricket. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love">

oh! I like the suggestions of Sirius and Cole. I was also thinking of the mean wizard from Lord of the Rings, Saruman. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/upsidedown.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="upsidedown"> But I like Sirius or Cole better. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">
