How does this work when homeschooling?
I remember awhile back reading about it, but now I can not remember and my husband and I were talking about it this morning. Can he get a regular high school diploma or is it a GED? Any info would be great. Thank you!

We're set on handing out a diploma here. Home schooling is like operating a very small private school - kids graduate just like they do everywhere else.

However, to prepare for college entrance we're also stressing the SAT/ACT to have those scores to back up the diploma.

Some homeschool families have their own diploma - you can print one up off of the Internet or buy one and fill it out. Some use the GED. In California, some use the CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Equivalency) for a diploma, but it's not recognized everywhere. And some - as we did - just ignored the whole issue and just went with enrolling in community college classes and then applying to four year colleges after some classes there that could be used on a transcript. Community colleges are not the same everywhere, though, and I think some want to see proof of high school graduation before enrollment, which I'm sure could be your own diploma in many cases. Here are some threads on the GED question:
What do you think...
Why no GED?
