The study evaluated possible associations between neurodevelopmental disorders (NDs) and exposure to mercury (Hg) from Thimerosal-containing vaccines (TCVs) by examining the automated Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD). A total of 278,624 subjects were identified in birth cohorts from 1990-1996 that had received their first oral polio vaccination by 3 months of age in the VSD. The birth cohort prevalence rate of medically diagnosed International Classification of Disease, 9th revision (ICD-9) specific NDs and control outcomes were calculated. Exposures to Hg from TCVs were calculated by birth cohort for specific exposure windows from birth-7 months and birth-13 months of age. Poisson regression analysis was used to model the association between the prevalence of outcomes and Hg doses from TCVs. Consistent significantly increased rate ratios were observed for autism, autism spectrum disorders, tics, attention deficit disorder, and emotional disturbances with Hg exposure from TCVs. By contrast, none of the control outcomes had significantly increased rate ratios with Hg exposure from TCVs. Routine childhood vaccination should be continued to help reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with infectious diseases, but efforts should be undertaken to remove Hg from vaccines. Additional studies should be conducted to further evaluate the relationship between Hg exposure and NDs.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...ubmed_RVDocSum

I am confused. So they did prove that TCVs cause NDs but what does control outcomes mean?

Why don't you start by explaining what you do understand.

Lots of people are reading it, I see.

Control groups are groups who aren't given the intervention they're looking at. In other words, the control groups weren't given TCVs. From this abstract, it looks like the rates of problems were substantially different between the two groups.

What I can make out of it is that groups which were given TCVs showed greater numbers of autism, ASD etc. My confusion is that they say the control outcomes did not have the same result demostrated with TCVs. So I am wondering what are the control outcomes?

I don't think there is any mention of control group. Rachel I may be completely wrong but I think control outcome means they were looking for something specific other than autism, tics, ASD with exposure to TCVs. Their conclusion is that some NDs can be caused by TCVs but not the 'control outcome.'

Now can someone correct me or explain?

The study is not written for most people to understand, even with a dictionary and Taber's at hand. Ask your doctor to explain it to you. THAT should be fun.

sounds to me that they are saying they see a link that Hg is related to Neurological disorder but they are not saying it's a direct cause, but are suggesting the removal of it.....the same old , same old....

it's them saying it's black when you know it's white.

the thing is why are people so convinced that you can end disease with injections??? I don't care about the immune reaction, that's a small part of disease. Disease is a natural, but mostly unwelcome, part of being alive, a living functioning being in a natural enviorment...it's almost hippocritical to life itself to say to someone that disease can be eradicated. Especially when most of these diseases are par for the course of a normal life, dna and cell function....
i had chicken pox...i can't understand why people make such a big deal about it, i'm sure mumps is uncomfortable but people don't normally die from these diseases....it's as if vaccines are a way to own a population, that you actually wind up commiting your body to science, because it's all basically experimental increasingly so with each new vaccine....look at Gardisil...a disaster of an experiment....death and chronic illness abounds!!! but that's ok for some reason?
