Who here has done an elimination diet? Could you give me some tips? I don't have access to books, etc. Did you write everything down? Did you eat things seperately? How long to wait to see if you react. I just can't seem to find out exactly what bothers me.

Does anyone have any tips for yummy bland foods (no onions, garlic, spices, dairy...so far)? I know it sounds silly.

Every time I start to eat a little bit more I get really sick and have a 5 day bout of nausea/diarrhea/pain/constipation. I've lost 25 lbs now (in 2 months). Every time I think I'm starting to put some weight back on I just lose more.

Help!

I lost your email address!!

I don't even know enough about elimination diets to tell you.

Not much doesn't bother me. Bread seems to be a major culprit, along with cabbage, peppers, onions, garlic. But I'm not sure about the bread. I have developed an aversion to it.

I can eat boiled veggies like carrots, potatoes, etc. Rice seems OK but I'm not sure.

I just don't how long to wait, how to seperate, etc. Like, should I eat a bowl of rice with no bread and wait a day?

And then there's the whole, Do I really want to have an entirely different menu for myself? Already I don't have much energy to cook, but then if I'm making 3 meals every time...!

I did the yeast elimination (vegan version) thing for a few years--it truly changed the quality of my health. I ran a search online--this article outlines what I did pretty closely. I also did Taoist food combining-I'll try to find a link for that in a minute.

Elimination diet info:

http://www.drcranton.com/elimination_diet.htm

Could find a link for Taoist food combining-but this chart is pretty good:

http://www.alderbrooke.com/chart.htm

Paris, 25lbs seems like an awful lot of weight. and all they can do is put you on an elimination diet? has anyone heard of Celiac disease? doesnt that have to do with gluten/whey?

I know they have worked up your gallbladder right? I'm sorry Paris, but i have bells going off in my head very very loud after reading your post. maybe i have missed other threads devoted to your belly, but the weight loss is concerning (not that it isnt to you either!). holy sh*t! ist not your pancreas is it? have you tried Pancreatese meds....its kinda like digestive enzymes in a pill!

ParisMaman,
A food diary might be a good place to start till you figure out how you want to do the elimination diet, so that time wouldnt be so wasted. For me I just wrote down what and when I ate it.

I did a food diary for when I was nursing my oldest. I never had to go on elimination diet because the the diary pinpointed the problem.

I sure hope you get whatever is ailing you figured out soon.

This isn't going to help, I can tell from your post already, but this is the elimination diet I did:

Rice
Salt
lamb
cabbage
garlic
shallots
chamomile tea
I ate those things until I had no symptoms for 5 days. Then I added one thing at a time until had a reaction. After the reaction, I would wait until 3 days after the last reaction.

I orginally thought I was allergic to corn, but it wasn't that and it wasn't wheat, and it wasn't milk. It was actually cheese and bread. It took 6 weeks to figure out.

I haven't even been put on an elimination diet. I've been diagnosed with IBS and told my extreme fatigue (sometimes I can barely walk without my legs literally folding) is "maybe depression". I do have chronic, bad pain from degenerative disc disease in my spine, so I'd rather blame the tiredness on that than on depression, but who am I?

I want to do the diet because I know there is something triggering the diarrhea. Like I said, I have about a 5-day bout of diarrhea at least once a month. I have been awake all night with the spasms for 2 nights now.

I also have developed a vague (sometimes not so vague - like these past 2 days) pain in my throat.

Maybe it's thyroid?

I feel nauseated all the time.

There is undigested food (sorry for the details).

The western doctors I have now seen, since the gallbladder workup, the colonoscopy and the endoscopy (diagnoses of cholecystitis, colitis and gastritis), totally discount anything the Kyrgyz-German Clinic said about those tests - without running any themselves (well, they did a CBC, an occult blood, and a H. Pylori screening).

When my chiropractor works on my abdomen everything (especially the stomach) is extremely tender to palpation. He's says it's not normal. The western doctor says nothing is enlarged so it's "clinically normal".

Ok, sorry for the RANT!

Thanks for the links and the advice and the support.

Lisa - The Kyrgyz-German Clinic gave me something called Pankreatino (containing pancreatinum) but I haven't been able to find out what this is and didn't take it.

Believe it or not - I love Lucky Charms! I haven't had any in years, but Man Oh Man do I love those marshmallow thingies!

Today I was telling myself that I would do just about anything in the world for a slice of pepperoni pizza! I have no appetite but would scarf down a greasy piece of pizza in a second. :

I've been on a strict diet of Top Ramen lately. Healthy, huh? It's the only thing that doesn't bother me.

Thanks for the link! This gut stuff sucks!

Anyway, I really appreciate everyone's input. I didn't realize that it was more about adding things in slowly than trying to eat normally and subtracting what hurts...if that makes sense.
