I need some help/advice. My son, who was 1 on July 11th still does not sleep through the night. I think he has maybe 5-6 times since he has been born. Anyways, I am not a fan of CIO so that is really out of the question for me. Ty is a little guy, at 1 year he weights 19 lbs. He will wake up in the middle of the night crying for a ba ba. I have tried not giving him one but he goes so worked up! He will take 6 ounces (more if I let him) and then fall right back to sleep. My feelings are that since he is so little (5% on weight) that if he wants to eat, why not feed him?

Is anyone dealing with this or have dealt with? Will he suddenly just stop waking up for one? He has been up every 2 hours the past 3 night, but took him to the Dr yesterday and he has an ear infection!!

Well, my ped says they should be able to go w/o a night feeding after 6 mos, but I don't really agree with him. I still feed dd (8mos old) when she wakes up and think you're probably right that your ds needs to eat since he's so tiny...hey..momma knows best!
I think there are mixed reviews on this on MDC, but you might want to look at the book The No Cry Sleep Solution if you want to work on helping your son sleep longer. Of course there are things like your ds's ear infection that will impact his sleep no matter what, but I think some of the ideas in the book are helpful.

My first dd started sleeping through at 6 weeks, but when she started getting teeth around 6 months, she'd wake up a few times per night. This lasted until around 18 months! I would have hated to let her CIO when she was crying in pain, you know? It was hard to deal with, especially after I thought I had it so good those first few months. But it's over and done with now, and she's a 7yo who sleeps very well.
