Anyone know of anything for a three year old girl who wants to play on a soccer team? I feel like her little heart will break if I don't find her something.

Ayer, MA (maybe not central MA enough for you?) has a "Little Kickers" team--it's all under-fours. My DD started at about 2 1/2; DS started at 18 months. It's really silly and ridiculous, but gets the kids out onto the field, each with his or her own ball, doing games like "red light, green light" and "Simon Says," with some other soccer drills sneaked in. No real games or anything, and all of the kids are together, not divided into teams. They get a team tee-shirt and a trophy at the end of the season. Seasons are in the spring and fall; the spring season started last week.

I can't imagine this sort of thing is unique to Ayer; much luck in finding something close to you!

Okay, so I've never posted a link before.... I hope I'm doing it right. Anyway, they do have a website, which I found by googling "Ayer MA recreation town soccer." (in case the link doesn't work)

There's a contact number and names on the site; Sarah Gibbons is the one who runs the whole deal, I think.

The under-fours are very casual; I think last week there were about thirty kids on the field. They used to let us play when we lived half an hour away, so I don't think residency is a big concern, either. I think the Little Kickers team costs twenty bucks. They play on Saturdays from 10:15 to 11:00.

This Saturday would be a beautiful day to start a soccer career!

Thanks! My MIL is probably gonna pay for it, so she might have a preference about location (though in that case I'd think she'd want closer to her on the south shore so she could come along to watch them sometime), but otherwise, I think I might just go for Ayer. I'll definitely pm you.

I did find something else through Marlborough parks and rec for 2.9-6 year olds, but honestly it sounds pretty competative. They talked about scrimages and one on ones and stuff (??).

We used the YMCA at that age (and still do). They had weekend soccer teams, but also "soccer/basketball" class once a week for the littlest kids.

I bet there's more stuff than you think available.
Our YMCA has soccer for that age (and t-ball and basketball). The TBall starts at 3 but the others start at 2-2.5. DS just finished a sports class through the rec department of another town that starts at 2.5 too.

I feel like they are trying to hide it LOL.

I've called Boys and Girls Club (no response and nothing on their website about soccer for preK), YMCA (told me they'd call back, then didn't, then I called them, then they told me to look on their website which of course I already had, and finally after all the run-around, they told me their youngest soccer stuff starts at age four), the city of Worcester (gave me the number for some guy name George who works at the DCU but apparently coordinates some soccer leagues, but he has yet to call me back), and searched the web for things all over central MA.

I'm starting to feel really frustrated that in the whole "big city of Worcester" there is (apparently) no parks and rec department. What the heck is that about?

George from the DCU called me back. He said they start at 4.5. I tried registering at Marlborough, but they only had one other kid registered, so they are thinking they will cancel. I'm thinking we're heading over to Ayer. That allows us to start tomorrow-- how exciting! LaLaLaLa, I just pm'd you.

I'll keep posting the results of my inquiries in case anyone else is interested in finding stuff.

None of the YMCAs in Worcester had anything, but the one in Westborough starts a program this Tuesday. The barrier for us is the cost. The preK membership is $172 for the year and then there is the $45 class fee.

Newton Community Ed has a preK soccer program as well. I think the fee is around $75. That is further from us than Ayer though by about 10 minutes, and we'd likely have times stuck in traffic headed that direction. With the additional cost, not sure we want to try to beat traffic to play.

Clinton Youth Soccer said their youngest team is four and five year olds but that they'd allow us to register dd as long as we understood who she'd be playing (dd would like that...she says she'd rather play with oder kids than younger kids, but her attention span is so "three year old" and I'm afraid the other kids would get frustrated with her).

The Worcester Youth Soccer League is closed for this season's registrations. I also searched their site a few days ago and didn't see anything for the really little ones. Did I miss it? I'll double check.

mummamilk pm'd me with a lead as well. She said Teamworks in Northboro has soccer for the wee ones. I'm definitely going to keep them on my radar. It's more expensive than Ayer but closer, so maybe cheaper in the longrun when all is said and done.

I am heading out to Ayer with dd tomorrow morning. I'm excited because it will also mean I'll get to meet another MDC mama. dd is getting cold feet, but silmultaneously with dd's nervousness, ds is getting excited and interested. I'm bringing ds along and maybe he can play even if dd gets nervous. He's actually just turned four, but I am hoping they'll go ahead and let him play if he wants since he has developmental delays.

Have you tried the JCC? Maybe ask for a "class" rather than a "league" and you'll get different answers. 3 is very young for soccer. What about a multi-sport class that touches all the basics? basketball, hockey, soccer, t-ball, a little golf, etc. Basically at that age it is about eye hand coordination and following diections in a group.

I know here you have to register for town league stuff two seasons ahead (halloween for spring sports, march for fall, etc) but classes they just look to fill.
