Wondered if you all had any suggestions...

since it's not summer, I can't fiind any in the stores, not even a pkg of 'sposies! We are going off for the weekend to meet family at a nice hotel that has an indoor pool & want to take DS in the pool for the 1st time, but nothing to wear! If anybody knows where I can get one QUICK, pls let me know! I am also posting to the TP, but thought I would check here for suggestions, too.

If you are a WAHMama, just PM me, I think this is allowed!

TIA!

thanks for the ideas! I do have a bumkins cover that still has the tags on, I was gonna TP it bcz I didn't like the nylon foldover around his waist, but I can see it would help it work in the water. Won't it get soggy, tho? I guess that is ok. I know I have heard Bumkins are not too absorbent anyway LOL. My other covers are Diaperraps with a flannel outer, & ME AFs. I do have a BBH that might be nylon. It is a soft fabric tye dye with a microfleece inner. It is not 'crinkly' sounding like the Bumkins, tho. Maybe it is waterproofed poly? I've been meaning to email Candy about that. I am gonna ck out that link, too. THANKS!

When I use PUL covers as swim diapers, I don't put a cloth diaper inside. There is no need to try to absorb the pee while swimming because it's not gonna happen anyway! The cover is just to hold in any poop. I mostly took my babies in naked last summer, but of course you can't at a hotel pool. If you think there's a chance your baby might poop, make sure the cover is pretty snug fitting (and if you don't think there will be any poop, the cover is just for show!). Put the cover on just before you get in the pool, and take it off when you get out. There are some cloth swim diapers that can be worn on land and in the water, and they have cloth inside. But if you're just using it for swimming, there's no need for a diaper, just a cover!

That said, the Bumkins cover might not be the best idea since it has the mesh at the back. I couldn't figure out from your post if you have a regular bumkins cover or the AIO. The AIO would work.

HTH!

oh ok, I was being confusing, sorry! My Bumkins tag says it's an AIO & it has a white cotton lining with a white cotton not-very-thick panel sewn in at the front & back. This is the part I would guess will get soggy, right? Thanks for all the help!

I just picked up a package of sposie swim diapers at walmart on clearance (woohoo!). They had bunches, too. My walmart store has an endcap devoted to clearance items in the baby department.

I once got an ocean aquarium bouncer for $15 marked down from $40!

Also, our wm store is carrying decorative diaper covers. They have a meshy lining. I don't see why you couldn't use one of those as a swim dipe.

A meshy lining would be fine. The regular bumkins covers have a part at the back that is *just mesh*. Without a diaper inside, poop could easily escape (in fact, poop escapes ours sometimes even with a diaper inside!).

Lex...I've never had trouble with poo coming out that meshy area of the cover. The legs and the back edge a different story, though! (his butt is like a volcano. He doesn't poop, he erupts!) I wouldn't use that cover for swimming, however. My Fuzzi Bunz worked for swimming, but had to be stripped after. The poo and chlorine combined to produce skunk juice.

For anyone else peeking at this thread, those covers I'm talking about were near the onesies, I think. They have a new line of baby stuff..."baby of mine" or something like that. Resembles Carter's. Heck, it might BE carters. Anyway, middle of that aisle, at about eye level.

hi there ! (pm'ed to you also)
i think i have a partially used package of lil swimmers (sposies) at home in a blue color. i got them to fit my daughter last summer (she was 7 months old) - i am at work so not exactly sure what size they are, but i can check tonight and send them out tomorrow (free of charge) if you want them.
i ended up using the shell (without soaker) of my angel wraps QD AIOs. perfect! she has some in stock and i am sure could get them out to you asap. http://www.angelwraps.com

Yeah, the Bumkins AIO won't work. I've tried. It just gets full of water! If you want to fork out the cash for an expensive cover, Bumpy Swim Diapers are fabulous! So trim! However, if you're using it just once, I'd probably use a nylon cover in a smaller size (since there's no diaper for it to cover) from BRU or something.
