Long story short....an American Eskimo that was scheduled to be euthanized this week, might be given a second chance. I was able to find someone who has two American Eskimos and is interested in fostering this little guy. She is pretty knowledgeable about the breed, but is looking for all the advice she can get about introducing this dog to her dog. One of her dogs is a male that is about 12-13 years old and a much younger female. The foster dog is about 3 years old. I also have two American Eskimos and know how particular they can be with other dogs and want to do all I can to help the transition before it occurs. I should also mention that all dogs in question are altered.
If the approval goes through I am going to drive the four hours with this dog this weekend. I would love to be able to give her a list of suggestions. Please, please, please help make this work. I lobbied really hard to save this dog's life and stepped on many toes. I want to do all I can to follow through with this dog and give him the best chance at the happy life he deserves.

Off the top of my head I would definitely have them meet off their territory. A public park would work well for this. Rather than approaching with the dogs the people involved should walk side-by-side with the dogs, so there's not as much pressure on them to try and "meet", you know?

In the foster home pick up all toys, chews, and anything valuable. Crate time is perfectly fine for the first few weeks, as is rotating the dogs free time so not everyone is together at the same time (i.e. one resident dog + foster). Slow, slow, slow. Much better to go too slow than too fast and have a scuffle. Extra exercise during the transition helps them deal with the stress too. If they exercise in a fenced area I would separate them too (residents separate from new dog, or 1 resident + foster if things are going really well). Definitely separate when playing competetive games like fetch or if they get rowdy outside.

Good luck and thank you for helping this pup!
