Help! Need good doctor!

I am hoping someone can help me out before I get really discouraged. I am trying to find a good regular doctor or an OB/GYN that will treat me for elevated blood pressure (it's not outrageously high, just higher than my midwife would like it to be). The catch is finding someone who will respect my choice to have a homebirth. Most regular OB offices won't see me because I won't be delivering with them.

I have been seeing a new doctor who is really good and is okay with the homebirth, but he would feel more comfortable if I am also seeing someone who specifically deals with blood pressure issues in pregnant women. He doesn't see pregnant women for BP issues very often because most women see an OB and plan to give birth in a hospital.

I live in Acworth but I am willing to drive to just about anywhere if it's worth it for a good doctor. I obviously don't want my BP to stay high and finding a doctor who will work with a homebirth patient is nearly impossible it seems.

If you have any suggestions, PLEASE send them my way.

Thanks a million!

my high blood pressure issues during pregnancy were treated by a nephrologist, not an OB - he had no idea of my birthing plans at all (I wasn't a homebirther anyway, but he wasn't an ob so he didn't know or care)

I cannot thank you enough. You just gave me a ray of hope and turned my day around. I looked at the website and see that he also accepts my insurance plan. I will definitely contact his office today.

it can be hard to get through to a person sometimes, but if the appts desk doesn't call you back then keep trying.

my only complaint about the office was that it was very impersonal (NOT dr. nath, he is very, very nice - just the actual office). For example you check in at a computer kiosk, and you have to take a number to get your labs drawn. That kind of thing.

But dr. nath is very smart and experienced with BP issues and what is safe during pregnancy.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I'm kind of used to it. I had surgery last year and was always dealing with Endocrinologists and other doctors, so I'm kind of used to busy, impersonal offices. As long as the doctor is willing to help me, that's my main concern! Again, I truly appreciate your help. You have no idea how this has turned my day around.

I saw the doctor today - I ended up going to the Woodstock office since it's closer to home and I saw Dr. Patel. He's new to the practice but I REALLY like him. He's not making me repeat any blood work I just had done this week and he seems really accepting of my homebirth and supports it. It's the most at-ease I've felt with a doctor in a really long time. He was very thorough and didn't rush the consultation at all. The good news is it looks like everything is fine, I just happen to have higher blood pressure. So we're just working on getting the meds to where they need to be.

If I haven't thanked you enough for referring me to this practice, THANK YOU!!
