This topic may have already been discussed over many times, but my search button is not displaying at the moment. :

Anyway, I am really stressed about this issue. I really need some of the wisdom of other mamas who have challenged the system here in Portland.

I am thinking of sending my ds (5 1/2) to the local public kindergarden here in Portland but when I read the D.O.E.'s stand vaxing I got really discouraged. My ds was partially vaxed while we were in Europe. My records are not in English and I am not even sure how the schedule lines up with the US schedule. How have you other Oregon mamas who non or partially vax and who send your dc to public school, gotten around the intimidating vax laws??? The laws read as though they have zero tolerance. Is that legal? Or are we completely alienated from acess to public education because we don't want to put (any more) poison in our children???
We have considered homeschooling, but ds is so excited to try public. I don't know what to do.

Agreed - the religious exemption in Oregon encompasses philosophical objection for vaccines. Nobody - NOBODY! - can ask you what religion you are.

I partially vaxed my daughter and initially had the vaxes she *did* receive on the form, but it got so crazy confusing that we started leaving it all blank and just signing the religious exemption.

AWESOME! Thanks Mamas! I talked to my friend who has lived here longer and she said the same thing.

It is VERY interesting that none of this is mentioned in the DOE's informational page for kindergarten (that I found). In fact, they go into great detail about how you won't be admitted if you don't comply or your child will be pulled until you do and all vaxes are given and the doctor has verified as much... ya da ya da... :

same as the others here. I was all prepared with the laws, a letter, the whole bit. They gave me the form, I looked at the back, found a box to check and a place to sign. I left off what we have gotten as to not deal with the confusion.
they glanced over it when we went over the paperwork and NEVER said a word!

I was wondering about this too, so I'm glad you asked. I am considering all the factors as I decide what to do about vaccinating my 4 month old daughter.

So, you can claim a religious exemption for public school, but what about daycare or pre-school? Does it depend on that particular school's policy? Can you ask for an exemption there too, or do they pretty much dictate who can and can't be there based on vaccination status?

Thanks!
