Hi, I have a 1yr old battleing a cold. I hate to take my childern to the doctor but I did today because we are SOOOOOO tired. She said that I should give him the cold and cough med. We gave it to him at 6mo and he had a very hard time waking and staying awake. Is there anything we can try??? She said if I did not give him the cough med that he would end up with a ear infection??? From the fluid that is there. The dexher....... crap will dry it up but I heard that stuff is BADD!!<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/sneeze.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Sneeze">:

I don't have any good suggestions for symptoms, I assumed you meant to get well (and so I started typing and now at the end I'm adding this part): I take/give to the kids vitamin c (sodium ascorbate type is easier on the body), 250mg/kg body weight per day when sick, which is about 1.1g/10 pounds body weight. Spread it over the day (it mixes well in water or other liquids, just tastes somewhat salty), it helps the immune system fight off whatever is there. The immune system also uses a lot of vitamin A when it's working hard, but I'm still not clear on dosing with cod liver oil, presuming you have any. I would think a couple teaspoons wouldn't be too much. I have a lot of luck with the vitamin C, it's done wonders for my son (now 6 mos old)--wish I'd known about it when my daughter was a baby. Good luck, I hope you both feel better (little one with illness, you with tiredness). ... And if you think part of the problem is that your little one isn't sleeping well, and thus isn't healing well, a dose of whatever cold med you've got that makes the baby sleep might be a good idea.
