My very generous mom has offered to buy me a new stationary bike since mine is cheap and uncomfortable… I am trying to decide on which kind I want, an upright or recumbent. Is one better than the other? Opinions anyone?

I have a recumbent - and love it! It's easy on my back, and very comfortable. As a bonus, I can sit and read (work journals) while I work out - I have never been up to date with reading them, until dh bought the bike a couple of months ago. I usually get through one journal each time I workout. I often forget I'm exercising and the time flies by - never had that when I"m exercising before.

I don't know if you have a bike you enjoy riding, but I do, so DH got me a stationary trainer where I can use my actual road bike inside.

If I were purchasing a new stationary, I think I would go with a recumbent as well (my back is bad). I'd love to try a real recumbent bike on the road sometime too.
