Hi all,
I posted a different post a couple days ago about this...my daughter burned her hand in March and now needs surgery to fix some contracture scarring on one finger.

We are scheduled for the surgery on Tues. morning, but DD has been sick all weekend with high fevers. I am going to cancel the surgery because she is just not well...and her little immune system is down, and so is mine (I've had mastitis).

Anyway...I started to think about it a little harder and decided it might be time to switch doctors as well. Most of my problems are with the nurses, but please tell me if I am being unreasonable.

I have been trying for a couple of weeks to get them to give me an estimate of the cost of the surgery. They totally gave me the run around...telling me that the billing person wasn't in...that they didn't know...and finally that they could not give me an estimate for liability reasons. This seems INSANE to me. Why would I agree to an elective surgery without knowing what we are getting into financially??! Has anyone heard this before?

Also, the nurses gave me a hard time about not vaxing when we went in. Not a welcoming first visit.

I've had to follow up so much just to get answers...they still have not sent me a pre-op packet. They told me they would mail it to me, but never did (the nurse admitted she forgot). It still has not arrived and the surgery is tomorrow. Grrrr....not great for an over-worried first time surgery mama.

We saw this surgeon (who is a great guy...nurses just suck) at one clinic, and then he moved clinics. We got transferred to a different doc, who seems to be a highly reknowned plastic surgeon, but when we met him, it was like he was smoking pot. He was so slurred and weird...hmmm. But, I am thinking of giving him another shot because he also has a specialty in hand surgery.

Ok...that's the whole story. Thoughts anyone? I just need some outside advice instead of all the voices in my head

I work in surgery - if something doesn't seem right to you - go somewhere else. Trust that momma instinct!!!

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I called and cancelled the surgery today and made an appt. for Thurs. with the other doctor. His desk staff and nurses are so sweet...so much nicer on the phone and they love Bella too. I know we did the right thing. Sometimes I just need reassurance!

I'm still worried about the actual surgery, but I think it will be much easier when we are all recovered from being sick.

Thanks again!
