I'm really, really new to cloth diapering...I used disposables on my older daughter (hangs head in shame) so I have NO experience with them and I need help! I'm working on building a supply of cloth diapers for my new little one (she's 5 weeks old) but so far haven't been able to find anything that she doesn't wet thru within an hour. I would really, really like to stay with either flat/prefold and/or fitteds with a cover...am not fond of AIO's or pockets. Does anyone know of any really good fitteds that I could try (with or without adding a soaker) or any other ideas? She's also a really big baby...easily over 12lbs already and almost grown out of her 0-3m clothes, if that makes a difference...she's got really chubby legs but no butt to speak of. Maybe that's part of the problem?

DS was the exact same way! 10lbs, 11oz at birth, grew like a weed, VERY heavy wetter! We used Kissaluvs fitteds before I knew that they are not very absorbent at all. We added doublers and that helped a lot, but when babies are that little, they pee all the time and my philosophy is that if the diaper is wet, it's time to be changed.

What diapers are you using now? We have had great luck with the Swaddlebees Organic Cotton Velour Fitteds with Little Beetle Organic Merino Wool covers. For night, we use Very Baby Basic Nights (without the fleece lining) and Aristocrats soakers, and we love them. Some other fitted, non-AIO diapers that are good for heavy wetters are Motherease and Muttaqins. Lots of people like the LB One or Hemps, but DS flooded right through those!

I've heard a lot of great things about Stacinator covers especially for babies w/ chunky thighs but I have not used them myself yet (the leg casings stretch so they have a very secure fit). I really love Cuddlebug fitteds too. They're absorbant but also sooo cute!

I have trouble with leaks too with my toddler, but I am a pockets person. I use Happy Heinys with 2 PFs at night and my DD doesnt leak through (and she drinks atleast 24 oz of liquid before going to bed, plus more throughout the night). Thats probably not helpful since you're not into pockets, but its the only thing I've found that has worked (my DD gets a rash with just a PF all night long from the wetness being on her skin).

Right now I have an assortment of different kinds...a couple of Kissaluvs (which I love, but you're right, they don't absorb all that well), one Ecobaby (which is better than the Kissaluvs but still not great), some prefolds and a bunch of Tiny Tots fitteds, which actually aren't bad for daytime, but she's already growing out of them. For covers I'm using the Super Whisper Wrap and the Bummis Polar Fleece wrap...once I get the money I'd like to get some wool covers, though. Thanks for the tips...I might have to give the SB's a try! I've never heard of the Very Baby one, though...where can I find those?

another vote for swaddlebees OCV fitteds. they are one of my favorites. in the regular fitteds you may be able to get away with a medium, but if you try the pocket fitteds (stuffed with a SBs hemp insert- incredibly absorbant!) i'd recommend a small- they seem to run larger to me.

dream-eze fitteds are really nice too, and definitly less $$$ then the SBs. a little bulkier though.

Very Baby Diapers are made by several different WAHMs. There's a "Where to Buy" tab on the website. You have to order them online. I like Blue Lake Diapers for VBs--fast turnaround and shipping, and she'll customize them, like if you don't want the fleece lining or something (like we didn't). (With some of the WAHMs, they only have diapers available for sale through custom slots and there's a lot of competition and waiting.)

We like the Basic Nights because they are a fuller cut than the Simply Nights, which are very trim and based on the VB pocket dipe pattern. We have the VBBNs in bamboo and they are the only thing that can contain DS's nightly deluge!
