I have a friend who's getting ready to go to Univ of Kansas and is looking for info on the menengitis vax they "strongly suggest" all students have. I printed off the waiver form for him that has a little info but I'm looking for some detail as to how the vax works or doesn't work and reasons not to get it. Please help me out. Thanks.

I believe the biggest issue with these 'bacterial' vaccines is simply: we all carry these bacteria in our bodies from time to time and usually they do no harm. What is the point of a vaccine against bacteria? How is it any different from widespread antibiotic use? You can never gain permanent immunity to bacteria.

Recently, it was discovered that three of the C strains had developed 'vaccine resistance'. They found this in a lab situation, but the blood taken was from human subjects, which means that these 'vaccine resistant' strains are already out in the population. From this article:http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/health...gs-threat.html

Don't know if this is what you were looking for: but simply put - if we need vaccines to help regulate the natural bacteria in our bodies - we are in deep trouble. I don't want anything disrupting my body's ability to regulate its own levels of bacteria. Furthermore - the vaccine does not prevent every type of meningitis. In fact the B strain, which causes most illness, is not included in the vaccine at all.
