I ordered a freehand mei tai and it arrived today!!! I was so excited!!!! BUT, my daughter doesn't seem to like it. I tried front and back carries a few times each, and she wasn't content. I have been a sling mama since she was born, so I don't know if she is just used to that. She does fine when she's in a framed back pack (Kelty). Anyone else have this issue? I love the mei tai and am eager to use it! HELP ME

I am so sorry to hear that things aren't going smoothly! When I began using a mei tai with my dd, I tried to make every experience positive. I would only keep her in it a few minutes once or twice a day and move constantly the entire time. This slow introduction worked well, and now she would be perfectly happy staying in there for hours if I would let her.

I wouldn't give up yet, perhaps she just needs some time to adjust? Hope it works out for you soon!

We're new to it too and still haven't mastered getting her on my back yet so I"ve only done front carry. The other thing dd seems to like best is when I fold the bottom of the MT before tying on so her head is up higher and not covered once in position. This way she can see all around and her arms are freer too.

My daughter is almost 13 months, about 21 pounds and about 30 inches long, so I don't know if that's an awkward age and size. I put her in it again tonight and we went to walk the dog. She seemed to do better with it, but it still seemed a little awkward for her, and me. The ties straps kept riding up on my stomach. Maybe I am doing it incorrectly. I read the instructions over and over to make sure, but I may be doing it too tight. I'm gonna try again tomorrow with her. If anyone has any other advice or suggestions let me know. I'd appreciate the help!!!

Have you tried the hip carry? My 14 month old loves that best.

I would say play with it a little more.
Have you tried calling / writting to Kaire from Freehand? I am sure she would be able to help you with your concerns.
I think I would not have liked my Freehand had I not tried German wraps before - My Freehand felt sooooo much easier after having to deal with the long and difficult to tie German wraps... THanks to Freehands I am considering having mostly MTs in my stash...

Which straps are riding up? The waist straps? Or the shoulder straps tied over the bum? Make sure you are tying the bottom on like an apron, and it should be snug.
You also might try thing the straps either over her legs/bum, under them, or behind her back. It may be that she (or you) would prefer one over the other.
I assume her arms are out (that can be one reason why kids fuss, they want their arms out). She may just want a better view, so on front a hip or front facing out carry might work or on back a high back carry.
Or it could just be that it is something new to get use to. And she is also at an age where most kids are wanting to play more and be held less (at least mine are at that age).

Gaea, my daughter, is definitely wanting to be held all the time, eventhough she is walking. How do I make it a higher back carry? She might enjoy that more. It is the waist straps that are riding up. I am going to call Kaire today, or email her and asked her some questions. I think it's just me and Gaea getting use to something new. Thanks again for all of the help!!

You can do a high back carry. Tie the waist straps as you normally would but above your breasts (or right under them). This is not super comfy for me with bigger kids but for some it is. This is how I wore my ds on my back when he was a week old.
