Hi. I am working on my masters thesis on midwifery in Houston. I am stumped on how to find people to interview for a couple of items. Do you have any suggestions?

1. Very few of the midwives I have spoken to have any black or Hispanic clients. Yet Houston is a very diverse city. Who should I talk to find out what these women do when they don't prefer to birth in a hospital, how they feel about the lack of diverse midwives, etc.??

2. Since I tend to meet the women using midwives through the midwives themselves, I only get the women who have had good experiences with their midwives. But I would like to find out about the types of problems some women have had with midwives and what these problems stem from. How do I find the women here who have been dissatisfied with their experience or who have switched midwives because of this?

I switched midwives. Feel free to PM me for details. I was very unhappy with the one I started with.

You could try going to the API (Attachment Parenting International) website and looking at their chapters, and then emailing the leaders of the chapters. Many of the women who are part of the organization have homebirthed. Surely there must be some minorities and dissatisfied clients among them.
