i want to know if this fabric is absorbent...do u use it as inserts (how many layers are in it?) for pocket diapers? i suck at sewing for the most part so i wouldnt try to make a diaper with it. so do any of u use inserts/doublers that are made of hemp with jersey on one side and fleece on the other?

so *if* i can use it as an insert, how many layers would i put on top of one another b4 sewing to make it absorbent enough and would i use that alone or with a prefold?

also, any special washing instructions?
sorry, it sounds like i dont know what i'm talking about cuz i dont
It works awsome as inserts. If you can sew a straight line, you can make nice trifold inserts from either hemp jersey or hemp fleece. You can also use hemp knit terry, but I found that it's harder to work with on a regular sewing machine (easier on a serger) because it stretches more than the other two. Anyway if you buy some hemp fleece (think sweatshirt fleece thickness... thick, so you won't need as many layers).. or hemp jersey (think t-shirt fabric.. very thin, so you'll need more layers) be sure you wash and dry on hot about three times to take care of any shrinkage.. otherwise if you sew it before washing it, it might go all catywhompus after the first wash. Then, you can cut rectangles.. for a medium diaper, I like 15 inches long and 12 inches wide. Be sure and add 1/2 inch all the way arond for seam allowance. If you are using hemp fleece, put two of these layers together.. right sides together... sew around leaving an opening three or four inches wide so you can "turn" it right side out. Then, "topstitch" 1/4 inch from the edge to close of the opening and make for a neater appearance being sure to catch the inner seam allowance in your stitching. There.. you are all done.. fold it into thirds like you would a prefold.. and slip it into a pocket diaper. You can do the same thing with hmep jersey.. but I'd recomend three layers sewn together so that when you trifold it, you have 9 layers of absorbency. There are lots of places that sell these "stuffers" too. They are often sold under other things such as "raincatchers" "puddlecatchers" or AIO "soakers" or simply as hemp prefolds. Hope that helped!
