i like to be able to feel the smooth side of the hemp - no fuzzies here - i love the sizing/fit etc of the sugar peas, just wish i could get them smooth side out! the fuzzy side develops pills and bumpies after awhile and i don't like that.
For diapers, all mine are smooth side facing out. Not sure why, that's just how they all seem to be made! But for wipes, I like the fuz out (unavoidable, really, with one layer hemp wipes!) so you get maximum soaking/wiping power! I would like to see a fuz out dipe. I think it would be soft and yummy to touch! Especially if it was dyed some cool color...
I prefer hemp french terry that is smooth side out. IME hemp fleece starts out yummy soft but very quickly gets crunchy and if you do hemp fleece smooth side out you end up with balls of fluff inside the diaper. For some reason hemp terry seems to shed a lot less (probably because it hasn't been brushed the way the hemp fleece has been).

I need them to be smooth side out (facing baby) Alexander has a texture sensitivity and has problems with the fuzzy side touching him.

Some don't like the smooth side out because they say that they end up with fuzz rocks inside the diapers. I haven't had this problem if the hemp is prewashed enough.
I read in another thread that you can hammer the "rocks" and they go away.
I agree with another mama that said the hemp french terry doesn't ball/pill the way fleece does. I too prefer all my dipes with smooth side out. Seems to stay much softer than our fuzzy side out ones.
I like fuzzy side out, though it seems that I'm the only one! I think fuzzy-side-out feels less clammy and cold next to the baby when the diaper is wet, and I think the poop is "caught" better by the textured surface. I haven't had problems with roughness; I've got some that are on their second baby and are still nice and soft. The fleece does loose some of the fuzziness, but what's left isn't yucky.

I've noticed the staining thing too! Why is that?
I like the fuz side in. It starts to feel rough after a couple of weeks. I have one diaper that is Hemp fleece with the fuzzy side out and it's so old that its worn smooth. :LOL I've gotten to where I don't like the feel of the fuzzy on terry (hemp or BKT) except on our wipes. They are single layer BKT. :LOL
