Here I go again w/Follistim

I don't post much...I'm more of a lurker but I'm feeling nervous so I decided to share.

I had my baseline today and just got the all clear to start my Follistim tonight. The last 2 cycles I've done Follistim, I overstimulated and had to be cancelled with a long break in between each cancelled cycle. It's been really sucky

Anyway, I've been on Metformin (1000mg) for a month and I'm taking a very low dose of Follistim (75). I'm hoping that will make all the difference and I'll actually make it to my trigger and IUI this time! What a novel idea

I actually have a question too.....my u/s today showed about 12 antral follies on the left ovary and a few less than that on the right. The nurse said that was good. I thought that would be too many...PCOS like? Anyone know?

I can't remember how many antral follies I had on my last u/s before the Met.

Anyway, thanks for listening/reading

Daisy, how ya doin'? I lurk on these threads. I have done 2 rounds of Follistim but am not currently using meds. I don't know the answer to your question about how many is too many. I had "too many" one cycle and had to take a different trigger shot. That shot was intended to absorb only the smallest follicles beause my estrogen was so high. Good luck to you.

Sucky. I was supposed to try Follistim (well, Puregon in Canada) this cycle, but my doc was worried I might overstimulate. She still gave me the option and mentioned that if I do overstimulate, they can do what they call an IVF conversion. Instead of inseminating, they can harvest the eggs and do an IVF cycle. And it's cheaper - half the cost of a regular IVF cycle.

I decided not to do it in favour of an unmedicated cycle, but just wanted to mention it, perhaps it might be an option for you if you do overstimulate. Best of luck!
