Here's a funny story

Dh has an older sister who is in her late 30's and doesn't have any children or experience with small children. She completely cracks me up with how clueless she is with everything related to kids. For example, she slept over at our house one time when ds was 6 months old and the next morning she was like, "Man! Why was J. crying all night?" When we told her that he's just not a very good sleeper she looked dumbfounded and asked, "Why not?" Or, when ds was 3 months old she said, "So is he talking yet?"

Anyway, here is the latest funny scenario. Dh's mom is currently staying with us to help out with things, as I'm 8 months pregnant with dc#2. My due date is July 14th, but baby will be considered full-term any time after June 23rd. We decided to all call Dh's sister on speaker-phone. During the conversation she mentioned that she'll be coming to visit us at the end of the month. Dh asked, "Why? Because you want to see us or because you think the baby will be here by then?" His sister replied, "Well...both. Anyway, I'll most likely only be able to visit on the 28th and 29th, so it's best for my schedule if the baby arrives on either of those days."
:

I told her that I'd try really hard to go into labour while she's here.

up My oldest sister is 37 and childless, so I've had quite a few of those moments, myself! What I especially love is how she constantly compares my children to her dog....'It's almost exactly the same, really!"

um, no it's not, really.

When DH and I were dating, my friend had a baby. She was only a few days old when we went to visit... on the way there, DH asked me if the baby's eyes were open yet.

His previous exposure to newborns had been limited to kittens, apparently...

Aw! I shudder to think of the things I've said in my pre-kids days. And I used to wonder how people could make the "she's so HUGE"/"She's so TINY" comments or guess the age 2 years off. But I suspect that as time goes by, I'll be doing the same thing. I guessed a 4 month old as 8 months the other day. Oops! The mom was nice and said the baby was kinda big.

Me, dh, and a couple of his friends went on a mini-road trip a couple weeks ago. Being 8months prego, I brought a snack. When I opened it up one of dh's friends said "Oh, baby's hungry!" kidding around. The girl sitting next to him acted surprised and asked me, "You can really feel when she gets hungry?!" I barely knew her, and didn't know what to say! She's only 18, so I have time to rub off on her!

That's kinda sweet though....at 18, I know I wouldn't have known any better, and it's cool that she's interested in the details of pregnancy. And it's really cool to think that you might be her first real exposure to pregnancy...just think, maybe if most (or even just a few!) of her assumptions about pregnancy are made from watching you, maybe then when it's her turn, she won't be as encumbered by fear or ignorance as so many women in our society are!

I have to say though, if it were me, I might not have been able to resist teasing her a bit....maybe say "yeah, I can feel when she's hungry, and it's the weirdest thing....I get this sort of empty, gnawing sensation in my stomach, and sometimes it even rumbles a bit!"

There are some funny stories here.

When I announced that I was 4 weeks pregnant at work with this one, one or two ladies who are in their late 20's/early 30's asked me if I knew what the sex of the baby was yet.

Hmmm just a tad early I think.
