hello ladies.I hope lots of you have had babies and those that haven't yet will soon!
I can't figure out how to post pics (don't have a flicker or simular account) but I did post a pic on the facebook MDC group that was started. would love to post one on here too just gonna have to see later.
Birth story- I'm not great at this so it may be kinda factual. My story is in no way a natural birth but it's my story and am proud of myself for doing what I did.
Started pit around 10:30 am and CTXs got going pretty well right away. By 12:30 they were about 3 mins apart and Caleb wasn't liking them (heart rate dropped to the 80s for a while) so had me lay on lay side for awhile to see if it's go Up (it did), ended up falling asleep for about 20-30 mins in which time the CTXs completely stopped (this is a pattern for me in labor) so they upped the pit a tiny bit and let me change position. I like to stand so up I went .
Within 10 mins I went from 0 to 10 ctxs- back to back (camel back) and dialated from 3 to 6. Was never able to rest or even catch my breath between each. I had known from the get go I'd probably need meds for pain at some point and was at that point. My dh and bf were great trying to get me thru the pain but I just couldn't do it w/o breaks between.
It was difficult for the dr. to do the shot because of how the CTXs were coming but I was able to hold still long enough during one to get it in.It only took a few mins to start working and then I immediately felt the need to push. My MW checked my cervix and I was dialtaed to 10. So in 10 mins I went from 6 to 10! And just 20 mins before that I was at 3!
I started pushing but because the meds had just kicked in couldn't feel when I was having a CTX and needed to be told when to go and even then couldn't feel if I was really pushing and doing anything or not. This fortunately only lasted a couple of contrations and I was then able to feel when I was having one. I still wasn't feeling him move down thou. He was almost crowning and his heartrate dropped again and I was told we needed to get him out. I heard the MW tell the nurse to page the dr that I may need a vaccum and thought to myself "no way- I will get him out myself". So on the next CTX I dug deep to my memories of my other births and pushed with my experience and felt that familar burn of his head coming out.One more push and he was out- No dr No Vaccum!
Caleb was born at 3:37 with his hands by his neck and the cord wrapped around his neck and hand and then his body. He looked as if he had been trying to pull the cord away from his neck. There was no slack on the cord so the MW had to cut it before dad got to but he followed up. His apgar scores were 8 and 9.
After "freeing" him I was given my bright eyed son and god he was gorgeous.Delivering the placenta about 10 mins later was like heaven I always forget how good that feels.I was able to start bfing him within the hour- didn't immediately because I just needed to look at him.
So from start to finish it felt like labor was only really about an hour long! with 20 mins of pushing.I have no regrets or wishes that it was different it was how it was sopposed to be. And it was mine and his.
He's here and perfect.I had a small tear with one stitch.but it hasn't bothered me. I'm feeling good. Went from feeling like I'd been hit by a semi to just having been in a bar fight in 3 days. Breast feeding is going great- he's a natural and consistantly been feeding every 3 hours since birth! I am using a nipple shield right now most feedings (helps me tuffen up) but am slowly weaning myself off- he likes to gum bite already so we're working on that!
This is dh's one and only child and has surprised me from the get go, He is natrually very ap and doesn't seem to think it should be any different!
So glad to be a mommy again!
