Hesseltine Cord Clamps

Where oh where do I get them? Are they like the dinosaurs and extinct?

Where oh where do I get umbilical string?

I despise those plastic clamps.

besides, I am going to move back home to practice, and supplies are expensive. Hesseltine clamps I can sterilize with my instruments and re-use, and string can't be too costly, right?

I don't know this clamp by name but do you mean the little stainless steel ones that clip by pinching and unpinching?

I will look-- for you
as for cord tape we bought some from Cascade a few years ago to send to Guatemala

Those are the ones! Seems like they are impossible to find
If you do a google search you can find the name of a manufacturer they may still have some around--

as for cord tape "birth with love" has rolls of unsterilized and this other birth supply has individual sterilized or large rolls of unsterilized

Yeah, the metal cord clamps are no longer being made by the company (American Coil & Spring) because there wasn't the demand for it vs the cost of making it.

I have about eight, and I use them when we first cut the baby's cord longer so there are no hemostats used or near baby. I am holding on to them with dear life.

I use a cord bander, and I've also used cord tape. Cord tape is pretty easy to find - just do a search of "umbilical cord tape" and you'll find it. I've also used embroidery floss, braided, as another nice alternative.
You can sterilize it, too, with your instruments if you want.

as an alternative to buying a cordbander, check this out: http://www.sterifeed.com/midwifery.htm

Jack, at www.inhishands.com is going to start carrying these for birthkits, if he doesn't have them already. I'm all about it, because I can get the hemostats for free b/c of DH's work.
Charlotte, thanks for posting that! I've actually used the cord bander bands with just a couple of hemostats and it works great. So, perhaps even buying those bands and using a couple hemostats (or one and something else to lift over the stump) would be a more economical choice!
Yep, I got some from Jack at the Texas midwifery conference in May. I haven't used them yet, but several of the midwives at the conference were raving about them.
so I am still thinking there is alot of trash involved-- maybe using just the bands like Pam mentions with hemostats or a hemostat and a stitch tweezer
