Hi I'm Judi and DS is 5 mo old Connor. Connor had a great latch from the start. In the hospital the nurses and LC said he was doing great and left me alone. I left the hospital and he was down 10% from his birth weight but everyone said not to worry my milks not in and he has a great latch. Well, no one bothered to check his suck. They could have placed him on a scale and check; but no he had a great latch.

I took him to his ped who said he lost too much weight in one week (12% down) and hooked me up with a decent LC. She diagnosed Connor as having an uncoordinated suck. We tired every different feeding method (SNS, finger feeding, syringes, etc) and settled on the Haberman Feeder. I always put Connor to my breast but he just latched and kinda licked.

For the first 14 weeks I pumped 8-10 times a day for a daily total of 5 hours of pumping ~ it was brutal. I've had cracked bleeding nipples, thrush/yeast, plugged ducts and Mastitis. After my bout with Mastitis my supply took a nose dive and never fully returned. I was a medium volume produces prior to Mastitis making enough to feed DS and to freeze some. Now I'm a low volume producer and some days he gets a bottle or 2 of formula.

I started with the goal to pump til Connor was a month old and then revised it to 3 months and then revised it to 6 months. I once agin have revised it and once Connor turns 26 weeks (5 weeks from this Sunday) I will only pump 2-3 times a day. I currently am pumping 5 time and this Sunday will drop to 4.

When my precious boy was about 3 months old the most magical thing happened one night. I put him to my breast as I always did in the middle of the night and instead of just playing with my nipple, he suck, HE SUCKED!!! I cried tears of joy and admiration for my son. He got it, he learned to breast feed. (God bless the Haberman Feeder) Breastfeeding Connor is so wonderful and rewarding. Now DS BF middle of the night and 1-2 feedings a day. I will let him BF as long as he wants but assume I'll wean him before he goes off to college .

If you made it this far, thanks for reading my and Connor's story, we're looking for pumping friends, ladies who understand.
Hugs Judi
